Default Portable Mid-Rise Lift Feedback.

For some time now I have been thinking about picking up a portable mid-rise lift (aka Scissor Lift) for working on my vehicles ('90 964 C2 & '83 Toyota FJ60) but I haven't pulled the trigger because I don't know if it will fill my needs.

I don't generally perform my oil service as I like having a second opinion from someone more experienced than I.

I would and do. . .wheel, tire, brake service, suspension, engine and exhaust. . .detailing of course. . .I guess a little of everything.

Would a portable mid-rise work well? What height is best?

I appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

That's what I plan on getting. I only have about 9.5" clear ceilings in the garage. Not high enough for a two poster. I can't be arsed to drill into or reinforce the concrete, so the MaxJax lift is out as well.

There is a very handy mechanic Doc Wilen who has a blog on Porsche repairs. Prior to getting into a new shop, he ran his repair business out of his home garage using only a mid-rise. He did anything and everything you can imagine.

I have a mate who's installing a Corvette engine into his 968, using only a mid-rise. I think it's limited by only your imagination.

I hope to get one by the end of the year.

Thanks for the feedback!

I don't want a two-post because the garage space I use is occasionally used to paint construction equipment. Therefore portability is key.

It's nice to hear that legit mechanics use them.

I have a mid-rise with extra lift pads (tallest gets the frame up 54"). I can raise the P-car high enough to sit on my 15" high roller seat and have just enough headroom to zip around underneath! If you are going to drop the P-car engine, you will want to cut the rear crossmember off the lift, don't worry, they are built like a tank, so a lightweight P-car has no adverse effect.

I found a Forward (brand name) mid-rise lift on Craigslist today listed for $1,200 (retails for $1,900+).

Goes to 52" and for two years old it looks to be in good shape.

Thoughts? Good deal? Knowledge of the brand?
