Default Turbo lid on 964

Looking to add a turbo lid and wing to my 993 964. Would a 993 turbo fit ? If so, is it a direct bolt on or is fabrication necessary? If not a 993, what other models would be applicable, prefer not to have a lid with rubber.

Thanks

993 964? I have a turbo tail on my car. some purists prefer you not put a turbo tail on a narrow body version, but it's all down to personal taste

A turbo tail is certainly a hefty piece for a narrow body, some like it some don't. I have an RSA tail that I still haven't put on yet...still undecided as the classic 911 lines are there in the 964 and when speeds go up, the aero of the spoiler rises from the car.

I'm in the same boat, sort of like the look, not sure if I want to make the investment...

I am looking to turbocharge the car (twin turbos), so I need to add the lid to accommodate the intercooler.

I put a 964 turbo spoiler on mine. You need to change the lid supports due to the extra weight.

How do you like the spoiler? Is it possible to remove the wing? Would keep the lid and possibly try to add a wing similar to the 993. Assume that apart from changing the supports, everything else fits normal.

Thanks!

The turbo lid suffers from the same issue as the RSA lid. You will need to make special brackets to accommodate the old style mounting points.

Cobalt is right, you will need to fabricate some new brackets to mount the turbo lid.
I bought the spoiler and lid complete (albeit Speed yellow !! ) and sold my original spoiler, lid and motor for the same money.
I have still got the spoiler light keep coming up on the dash but not sure how to get rid of it

Is the weight difference that significant to impact the overall weight of the car? Hopefully, not be a big gain, but may even look at keeping the lid and adding the intercooler elsewhere.

The fixed wing & lid weighs about 6-8 more pounds than the retractable wing & lid so it won't impact balance. It will increase rear down force by about 800 pounds so you will need to either add a front splitter or drop the front of the car by 1/2" or more to prevent forces lifting the front end and causing high speed instability.

Cobalt is right. It is quite important to make sure you have the right aerodynamic balance between front and back if you install the turbo wing in order to preserve high speed stability.

Hi, I turbo charged my narrow bodied 964 Cab and in order for the inter cooler to fit you will need a rear deck lid and the hinges off a 965. It will bolt right up. Check the salvage yards to find what you need, although the deck lid will often times be bent so it might take awhile to find one. I paid $600.00 for deck lid and hinges. Then of course you'll need the wing, which the salvage yards wanted about $1000.00. L. A. Porsche had the whole set up for $1600.00. I got an after market wing from Better Bodies Motor Sports for $500.00, but the whole project got pretty expensive. Would have been cheaper to sell the 964 and buy a 3.3 Turbo 965, but I like the Cabriolet.

Jim
Thanks for the update. I am hoping to do like wise, go with a 965 lid but after market wing, although I saw an aftermarket lid and wing based on the 993 turbo that's built for the 964, seems like an option. As to the cost for the build, I am trying to source the parts instead of buying a kit. Yeah the guys at L.A dismantlers, are very high. Have looked at some cars for sale, but the prices on the turbos are not pocket friendly. How does your car run?

Sherion, I would do the rsa wing if possible, 993 wing is sweet, but fits the Turbo better. Its all a matter of opinion and dynamics as mentioned above.
