Haha, yeah, should be good for tomorrow, I'm after a few opinions on the noise as it really kicks out a racket on decel between 2750 and 2000rpm.

Lemme know what you reckon tomorrow.

As a newb about to source and rebuild a 964 or 993 motor could you suggest some threads? Thanks!

You could do a lot worse that read about Black Betty's engine build but if you just pop a search on here for 'rebuild' or 'engine rebuild' you will find hours and hours of reading.

Big thanks to John Glynn from Ferdinand the cult of Porsche magazine for his recent valuation and as an aside nice write up on my exhaust project:

Just to tidy this exhaust project off - I was never really happy to leave the exhaust tips just as bits of pipe and wanted the Corvette exhaust I started with to play some part so I used a couple of the Titanium tips as they have a nice rolled edge. I'm not going to bother with double slip joints as it doesn't leak so there is no need. As it is clamped there is also no need to add springs so I now consider this project finished which is unusual for me!!

It's a bit of a marmite thing having the tips exit through the bumper and they are fairly large at £3.5" dia but I'm happy.

Next comes the re-addition of a nice simple heating system. Mmmm heeeeeaaaaat

Thanks guys. Just feels good to finish a project after months of dicking around with it.

Ooomph is good, car is still noisy but not as noisy. A quick dirty home db test gave me around 89db on tickover and 107 at 3/4 rpm so even with that dirty great backbox it's still gonna need an insert or brillo pad stuffed up its backside!!

Car is running richer now which I guess makes sense due to going from 1.75" primaries to the 993's 1.5". It has always been a concern for me WRT ultimate hp but I need to get it back up to Waynes to get it remapped. I refuse to do it without heat this time though (soft southener). Think I'll change the injectors at the same time to the big green jobbies.

Cheers dude, car is driving well at the minute. I slung it on the weighbridge at the tip the other week and it was weighing 1030kg with 1/8th of a tank of fuel and no driver so it's quite lively!

Cheers, it's currently just got a load of reflective aluminium tape on the inside of the bumper. It doesn't seem to be a problem yet while it's only home/rattle can painted but may need to have a think when it all gets painted the same colour. The old tips were pretty much touching the bumper and there never any marks so I was reasonably confident it wouldn't catch fire (famous last words!). Fire extinguisher lives in the car for peace of mind

How did you like the sound of the original magnaflow muffler you had on there?

That's really good do you think with a bit more work you could get below 1000Kg, with the power you've got it would be super quick! How do you find getting in touch with Wayne !!

Magnaflow sounded great, performed really well and are quite light but the 14" one I used is loud so expect some booming and a lot of noise. I ended up making some inserts for if I needed it to be a bit quieter or earplugs on long motorway journeys but then I don't have much in the way of carpet / sound deadening. The 21" Magnaflow is a lot quieter but trickier to fit due to the width.

There's still weight to come out as the car is still running ally front bumper, sill covers, steel front wings etc I have got a set of turbo fibreglass front wings and steel rears for when it all gets painted but there is also some weight to go back in (possibly cage) and I do want a few luxuries such as lightweight carpet. 300+bhp and 1000kg is kinda the holy grail though so a good point to aim for

Quick update: Car came out of hibernation last week after a couple of months off & a few winter jobs. I know it's not 964 body/wheels but I couldn't resist sticking a photo up as I had my Fuchs wheels refurbed/re-anodised. I couldn't decide what colour to go so am leaving them naked for now.

Fitted a Bosch 044 motorsport fuel pump as the old one was looking pretty crusty. Making a bigger centre fill fuel tank for the car but no real rush so that can be my little project for 2015.

Managed to get the car back up to Wayne Schofield at 9M last week. It was running rich ever since I put the new exhaust on it and took the opportunity to fit some slightly larger injectors while I was up there.

964 injectors top out at around 310 bhp and the last time I had it mapped post rebuild the engine made 308 bhp which is just a bit too close to the limit for me so swapped them for injectors from an E36 M3 as these put out a bit more but not too much so you can maintain the accuracy.

Car gained a bit from last time but more importantly in now running right again - bit of a shame I can't say if it's the injectors or the exhaust that made the difference but just happy I didn't go backwards! Scan of the pre-post power curve is a bit crap so results were:

Before: 290.9 Hp @ 5912 rpm with 274.8 lbs @ 5262 rpm
After: 314.7 Hp @ 6234 rpm with 292.3 lbs @ 4748 rpm

Felt great on the way home as always, also helped because it now has heat. I really can't recommend taking it to Wayne enough.
