Default Can you convert a 964 cab to a manual top?

I'm much more familiar with the earlier cars - had a 1987 Cab that was a manual top - my buddy has a 1991 C2 Cab - and one of the motors has gone on it - Can you convert these (the 964 cars) to a manual top?

I'm a jump in there and take care if it kind of guy - he's more of a checkbook mechanic....

Why? Cheaper is to fix or replace old motor.

I think it can be done - by removing the cables from the transmissions - the transmissions need to work freely so you can raise and lower by hand. But, you would want to keep the electrical lock mechanism functional on the top - You would have to raise the top by hand to the point where the cam locking devices attach to the upper part of the windshield, then just hold the electrical switch down to activate the cam lock motors. Listen carefully when they are full engaged an the release the switch. Lowering would be the reverse. I am sure there is more to it -

Just loosen the 19-mm bolts on the two transmissions.

sounds like more trouble than its worth. try fixing the motor first if all else fails then make it manual.

It`s really an easy fix - like posted before. Do not loosen the respective bolt completely, just about 4 times. The manual describes this procedure also in case of an electric failure.

To unlock (and lock) the roof, you still need to press the opening switch.
