Dear All,
I have tried to figure out what the std, wheel setup was for a 1992 c2 and rs with cup1 wheels when it was new, according to Adrians wheel guide (and a few other sources the cup1:s (Cup design) came in:
965 362 124 00 7JX17 55
965 362 124 01 7JX17 55
965 362 124 15 7.5JX17 55 needs spacers
965 362 124 05 7.5JX17 65 needs spacers
965 362 126 00 8JX17 52
965 362 126 01 8JX17 52
965 362 128 00 9JX17 55
965 362 128 10 9JX17 55
965 362 128 05 9.5JX17 68 needs spacers
Was it just pick and choose or was it a std setup like 7 in the front and 8 in the back....... I'm puzzled...

The 7 & 8's were optional on the C2/C4's and standard on the RSA's. The 7's and 9's ET55 were standard on the 90-91 turbos, American Roadster and 94 C4 widebody. Most of us use either the 7&9's from the turbo or we put the 8's up front and use the 8&9's although it is rare to find them sold as 8&9's.
The 928 GTS used the 7.5 and 9's standard for 93 MY cars and the differences between the same sizes with p/n's ending in 00 or 01 is that they are the identical wheel from the outside but were manufactured by 2 different companies. the 00 has a solid spoke with an indent in the back the 01's have a solid bar in the middle with either side having a thin cosmetic covering forming the outer shape. Hard to explain so I hope it gives you a picture.
Bill answered the rest about the rare configurations.
