Earlier this year my son and I tried both the OEM RS and the Wevo black pillows. He went with the RS mounts in his '90 C2, while I chose the Wevo's for my 95 993. We are both happy. If it were me I'd get the Wevo's because you can replace the rubber bushes when they eventually fail. Quality of both sets is excellent and the ride is much improved over the old spent mounts.

Here is a thread that I posted:

Well, I just went out and looked at my mounts and they are shot too.

I was wondering if anyone knows, do the mounts wear over time or do they just die one day. In other words, is it a gradual wearing?

I guess I will be ordering a 993 set too. I'm wondering if this will make the car feel less firm over bumps and pot holes.

They wear out over time typically last to 100k miles. Ebay has 993, 964, 986 mounts or Wevo or RS mounts. A pretty easy DIY replace.

There must be a time factor too as my car only has 45k miles and they look like this:

CabrioArtie, you have bigger problems, yours are upside down.

The mounts are correct, the car is upside down. This is why it doesn't roll all that well

I bet we all need new mounts if they havent been replaced recently. Im in the middle of a valve adjust and this thread caused me to look at my mounts. They are toast just like the ones in the pictures in this thread. Another project to add to the list.

Email response from the cheap Ebay supplier (as there only seems to be one with the mounts) says they are 'made' by Hamburg Technic. In the couple of pages I looked at after searching...consensus is they are crap.(BMW/Volvo forums) OEM is the way to go on these it seems.

I ordered my RS mounts last week...

My car has 47K on it, but I agree time kills rubber especially in CA !

Hi HardTarget, I am with you, buy OEM and we should be good for another 15 years or so, is it really worth taking a chance on some aftermarket crap, just to save $100.00; this is our pride & joy after all, my 2c.

Indeed. That deal that looks too good to be true. There is a reason... And from the responses on those other boards regarding this parts supplier...not worth it if they fail after such a short time. 10+ years for an addition $100-150...yeah...worth the extra $.

I just checked both mounts and they seem Ok and I hope the hole on top of the mount can be used to measure how bad the mount is..

So I took these pictures, maybe someone with bad mounts can confirm/deny this is a good way to tell when they're out of spec:

Scamper, can you confirm the part numbers of the 993 mounts you have installed?

Thanks

Ross
