I had this issue in the summer before I put my car in storage (993). The oil pressure would peg and then drop back down at random. If I went over the bump or tapped the gauge the needle would fall back to normal range. Determined it was the gauge and sent it to North Hollywood Speedometer who re-calibrated it for me. Came back with two bulbs burnt out and they quickly sent me two new bulbs at no charge. Great service.

Good to know that if the light comes on it is likely the sender and to only buy the Porsche part.

The only help I can offer is that you're now seeing the same symptoms as the dud one I tried, so my guess is that yours has failed and you might need to replace it. From experience I suggest only trying the original Porsche one when replacing.
