I'm in a bit of a pickle and I'm after some expertise!

I bumped by car a couple of weeks ago and I'm having a SMART repair performed to the paintwork TOMORROW.

The guys has about a million different colours in his pantone books, unfortunately there isn’t one for Porche[s Baltic Blue.

Even though we have the colour code, he has to have it in one of the books.

The closest match we have is Nissans Blue, B40.

It's an almost perfect colour to the car.

As it's only the middle panel of the rear bumper that is being resprayed, you won't be able to tell.

Does anybody have any manufacturer colour type/code that is a perfect fit??

Are you taking the colour code from the sticker under the bonnet lid, or from the sticker next to the brake fluid reservoir under the carpet? I always thought that this one has all the info that the paint shop guys need to mix the paint?

Thinking about it mine is a one off colour (match to sample) and my paint shop guy managed to mix me some touch up paint from the sticker by the brake fluid reservoir, so I would have thought you should be able to also.

Its a chips away guy, not a bodyshop. He said he cant mix the paint if the codes are not in his book.

I think the porsche code must therefore have to correspond to another code in his pantone book, which he doesnt have.

Hmm - not sure if that links works properly. Do a search for Porsche 1990 and Balti Blue comes up.

According to them, the codes for Baltic Blue Metallic Clearcoat are 37B/C7/LN5P/LM5P. Maybe these will help?

Find a paint jobber that has a colorometer. Even 16 years ago, colorometers could discern 16 million colors, hues, and chromas. It can provide the exact mix for each of them. Even several steps away the color difference is too small for the human eye to discern. If you can see any difference at all, you can do much better. I don't think you will be happy in the long run if you notice a color mis-match.

I just wouldn't use this chap and go to a body shop rather than use pre-mixed paint intended for a Nissan...

If he is using a particular process to repair the paint that you like, I would buy the proper paint myself and provide it to him. Otherwise, I would go elsewhere for the repair.

Adrian's book states 37B Baltic Blue/ Taubenbleu was also known as Dove Blue Metallic.

I just had a look at mine - sticker on inside front wing infront of intensive washer bottle (RHD) shows:
37 B 9 7
Baltic Blue / Taubenbleu
1 2

It may also be a VW/Audi colour code but I can't confirm: TAUBEN BLUE - VW L M5P ???????

just to add some information to this very old thread as a google search still brings it up .

Taubenbleu does have a similar paint code to Baltic Blue however it is an entirely different colour altogether. Taubenbleu (L 5MP ) is a dark navy near black colour nothing like baltic Blue or Dove Blue both of which are light /mid metalic 2pk blues.

Note the gap between the L and the 5MP of the Taubenbleu paint code (L 5MP ) as apposed to the LM5P of the Baltic Blue which is what confuses people when looking up this code. The Porsche baltic Blue has no gap in the 4 character code

This is the full Baltic Blue paint code for my 1989 944S2 37B/C7/LN5P/LM5P
Baltic blue was also used for the 1990 944S2 and a 911 and 928 model but I haven't got the years to hand.

So don't be fooled in allowing someone to mix up Tabenbleu as a substitute for Baltic Blue as I was today. Fortunately I didn't need to pay for it.
