rear window haze
Hi y'all, I'm in the midst of a spring clean of my 91C2 (and boy, does she need it!). There is a haze on the inside of the rear window which won't budge, no matter what I try. Somebody told me it was due to outgassing from the vinyl trim under the window over time.
Now I've noticed it I've seen it on quite a few cars - a splotchy grey haze, but in quite a regular 'diamond' pattern, and only visible from certain angles.
Anybody know what it might be, how I can get it off, and how I can stop it laying down again?
Cheers, Andrew.

It is silicone from cheap "vinyl protectant". It also builds up on the wind shield, but that you take off regularly because you need to see. Try a glass cleaner containing amonia, and lots of paper towells. Repeat application of the spray cleaner until you get the haze off. You can't be too aggressive or you will damage the defroster grid.
I switched to 3M vinyl conditioner, because it does not off-gas (usual disclaimers).

Might be the actual glass.
When toughened glass is made the process can make patterns in the glass, they heat and cool the glass quickly. With age they become more visible.

Question - What type of car do you have? Is it a coupe or a cab? The answers above apply to coupes with glass windows. Do not use ammonia cleaners on a cab rear window. They will turn the plastic brown.

If you have a cab. use a plastic polish cleaner on your window. Also use a micro fiber towel. These are much softer than a terrie towel. The plastic will scratch easily.
