Default Removing glue residue

I've finally got round to removing the velcro mount on the top of my dashboard that I think a previous owner used to attach a radar detector. It has come off ok, leaving the leather intact, but all of the glue on the back of the velcro pad has transferred to the leather so that I'm left with a horrible off-colour sticky patch (yuck, that sounds horrible!).

Any ideas on how to get rid of the residue without harming the leather/vinyl? The glue is more like the tacky glue that kids use, rather than a hard brittle superglue if that's any help.

I used some of the zippo lighter petrol to get rid of an old speed trap sticky mount.

Just make sure you treat the vinyl/leather as soon as.

There's stuff call "goo remover" or "goo off" but it's basically a citrus based cleaner formulated to remove glue residue easily and without harming the surface... most hardware stores and some supermarkets carry it under several brand names.

I've had good luck using 3M's Adhesive Remover (no affiliation). Its available at your local auto parts store. It seems to remove all sorts of glues without damaging plastic or vinyl.

Goo gone is the best. Takes all adhesive off. I use it all the time.

Try WD40 first. I figure you have that around the house anyhow.
