Default Idiot's Guide to the 964 Engine Compartment?

After peering around in the engine compartment today I realised that I knew what some of the parts were, but had no clue on some other fairly major looking items.

So I searched about for an annotated photo of the engine compartment of a 964 (NA), and couldn't find one. I looked through Adrian's book, and found a few answers. But I decided to make a diagram myself, label it with what I think I know, and ask for help in correcting and updating it.

Here is the current version:
Idiot's Guide to the 964 Engine Compartment

Can anyone help identifying the parts identified as "?" 1 through 4? Also, I think what I have labelled as the Throttle Cable, may be the cruise control cable? Have I missed labelling anything major?

The following link to the 964 Porsche Parts Catalog may be of help.

  1. ISV Muffler
  2. Carbon Canister Vacuum Switch
  3. Resonance Flap Electrical Connector
  4. Tail-light Vent Tube

What you have listed as "Ignition Leads" might better be described as the "Ignition Coils."

I always find this diagram very useful, also. It's the connections behind he blower motor.

Also, the part labeled "throttle cable" is actually the cable from the Cruise Control unit. The "main" throttle cable from the gas pedal is not visible in that picture since it comes from in front of the engine (towards the passenger compartment)...

Also, the green electrical plug above the A/C lines is the right side knock sensor. You don't have that one numbered...

I like your photos and labels .

Could you label and point to the ignition switchs please ?
I can see one of them between the ignition leads pointer , heater blower/engine cooling fan pointer and the ntc sensor pointer . If you make a triangle out of the three pointer tips , the switch is in the triangle.

Thanks for all the suggestions and corrections ... very helpful. (The link to the parts catalogue is a boon.)

I updated the diagram. I'm not sure whether I have the knock sensor connector in the right place, or the position of the requested ignition switches label?

I see no reference to the muffler bearings, nor the cool collar. You should include these for the sake of completeness.

I'm just kidding with you. There are no such parts in the engine bay.

Thanks for your efforts, though. I have printed a copy for my own use.
