Euromagination

Last week, I took the 964 on a decent road trip for the first time. I drove from Princeton, NJ to Columbus, OH and just got back last night. I logged about 1500 miles in one week, and now the car is getting a rest as I promised her.
It was a great drive, and even at 6'4" I was comfortable the whole time. I just threw my suitcase in the back and went. I had some good times driving on I-80 as well when I was out in the open country, and I also somehow managed to obey my own "no eating in the car" rule the whole time.

Of course when I got into some small towns in Ohio, I was made a spectacle of. Twice I was pulled over and harrassed by a young small-town cop. I wasn't ticketed either time. I Guess they just felt the need to pul me over and at least run my plates for fun since I'm younger and had out-of-state plates. That was definitely a drawback though. The attention the car drew in small towns that never see a 911 wasn't always a good thing.
The biggest drawback was all the bugs I hit. I have the day off of work today and I now will probably spend most of the day cleaning bugs off the car. The front bumper and headlights are disgusting.

Anyway, I just thought I'd share! It was a very good driving experience until I got back to NJ and had to deal with the jerk-drivers again.

Anyone else have a road trip planned???

road trip to Le Mans in a month - if i can get the oil leak fixed...(going to a specialist on monday), hope the car will be fine, cannot wait to get on empty french motorways, then camping with 200 other porkers. Excellent stuff!

In March, I completed a 3,500 mile road trip driving from San Francisco to Boston. I was recently transfered in my job which force me to sell my house and move to New England. The drive was quite fun. It was more fun out west where the speed limits are higher and the traffic density is low. The car was able to cruise at 85-90 all day with plenty of power to pass when needed.

My mom rode along with me for 2/3's of the trip. I thought it was funny when she commented how well the car was able to accelerate to pass. We had just sped up to 110 to pass two trucks entering a hill. I didn't want to be stuck behind them on the climb.

I encountered some snow in northern Ohio and New York. I was a bit worried about it since my car is lowered and has Bridgestone SO-3's. But I had not problems with traction.

I confess, I have reached my highest top speed on a French motorway. But I'd be careful - have you seen GT Purely Porsche this month?

They got pulled by a bike - 750 euro fine (which would be bad enough) but also a 1 month ban from driving in France. Which might make getting home a bit tricky.

Paste of baking soda and water dissolves bugs nicely - when you wash the car smear a dab of paste on a bug splatter, then come back to it a couple minutes later and wipe off.

Dave - re driving bans in france - have insured my Le Mans passenger on the car so we could both carry a typical 3 day french ban and still get home - should be ok...
