Post The Racer's Group Prepares...

..For the Double-Header at VIR
Grand Am VIR 500 and PCA Zone 2 Club Race

Alton, VA - August 27, 2002 - This Labor Day weekend delivers a "double-header" for Porsche enthusiasts and The Racer's Group fans with the inaugural VIR 500 at Virginia International Raceway. The action packed weekend includes Grand-Am teams and the Porsche Club of America (PCA) Zone 2 Club race, as they take to the 3.27 mile, 17 turn road course located in the rural beauty of Alton, Virginia.

Coming from a series of podium finishes throughout their "dream season", The Racer's Group entries for this Grand-Am race include the mail2web.com Porsche GT3 RS #66, co-driven by both Kevin Buckler and Michael Schrom; and the #67 Porsche that will be jointly piloted by Christine Perot, John Morton and Paco Orti. The current team standings before this race weekend shows The Racer's Group/mail2web.com #66 only seven points out, and in third place, within the Grand-Am GT class.

"This weekend is a terrific opportunity to show both the team and the cars capabilities. In conjunction with the PCA Zone 2 race - it ought to be a fast and furious weekend for both The Racer's Group and spectators alike." noted team owner and driver Kevin Buckler. "With Michael and me driving the #66 car and Christine, John and Paco in the #67 car, I'd say we are more then ready to take it to the other teams. More importantly, we have incredible faith in the cars, the drivers, the crew members, the equipment and especially, our fans."

Overall in the Grand-Am series, GT Class, Kevin Buckler and Michael Schrom are 3rd and 5th respectively in GT driver points, out of the110 GT drivers listed in that driver class. "I’m doing the whole season with Michael and I could not have chosen a better co-driver. Michael is safe, smart and fast - and that’s exactly what we need," Buckler noted. Michael hails from Ghent, NY, but refers to any racetrack as "home".

Paco Orti, co-driver of The Racer's Group #67 car, has previously driven for Marcos Racing and closely follows Buckler and Schrom in overall GT Class divers points. As Buckler noted: "While this is Paco's first stint of the season with The Racer's Group, he brings with him a repertoire of skill, maturity and racing experience."

The Racer's Group will also be competing in the Zone 2 PCA Club Race. Practice for PCA race will be Friday and Saturday with the actual races scheduled on Sunday morning, prior to the Grand-Am 500 scheduled for that afternoon. All PCA and Rennlist.com members are welcomed to stop by and visit the PCA Club Racing Hospitality Tent alongside Vendor Row.

John, it was a pleasure to finally meet you, Kevin, and the TRG team at the VIR 500...whatta race! <img src="graemlins/jumper.gif" border="0" alt="[jumper]" />

I had a blast and Kevin was great to talk to.

This was my first Grand Am race and I advise ANYONE who has a chance, or is nearby a track where the Grand Am series is making an appearance - to get off yer duff and go!
