Default Volk Racing TE37 RSA Picture

Yes they are 18” and not recommended by Porsche for the 964. Just in case some of you were interested in what they would look like on a 964. They come with blue anodized valve stems. I’m not sure why but it doesn’t look bad. The lug nut seat is not the same a Porsche wheel. The lug nuts need to have a 60-degree conical seat 14mm 1.5. Front wheels are 18” x 8.5” 50mm offset and the rears are 18” x 10” 50mm offset. The front weigh about 17lbs and the rears weigh 19lbs according to my bathroom scale.

I thought that Porsche had issues with 18" Speedline wheels (as used on 964 Cup cars), not all 18" wheels.

"18" wheels are not approved for installation on any 964 which did not leave the factory with them installed as standard fitment"

This thread was not intended to debate the 18" wheels on a 964, only to show a light weight alternative.

Brother had them on his car. Due to light weight of wheels, there was better acceleration and handling...suspension seemed more responsive. But have heard that they do not take hard knocks that well ie. they have been known to crack. Fabulous for the track but dicey for B-roads. Just from 3rd party experiences

Im curious about your fitment/offsets. What tire size are you using and what is your alignment (neg camber) set at?

I did a trial fitment of an 8x18 993RS Speedline wheel w/ a 245/35 tire on the front of my RSA, and it sticks out nearly an a half inch at least from the fender well. The wheel has a 52mm offset and I would have guessed from the way it fits, I would need about a 60-65mm offset to look right. The car has about 1 deg neg camber.

Default 18 wheels

Also has your car been lowered? If so how much? What are the fender lip heights? All the questions since I am considering 18" fitment also.

Thanks
Dan

How is the car's handling and acceleration affected by the 18" wheels? Great setup!!

Pzull - I think they do look better in the flesh. The picture does not do the wheels justice. I had to turn the resolution way down to post the picture. They tend to look more bronze in person.

Oddjob - I'm using a Toyo Ra-1 225/40-18 in the front and a 275/35-18 in the rear. I have a 3mm spacer in the rear because the tire was a little close to the control arm. My rear fender lips are rolled. The front fittment with this tire is no problem. I think I can use a larger front tire. I'm currently at 2.9 negative camber in the front and 2.5 negative in the rear.

rsa964 - The car has been lowered. My front fender lip is 25" and my rear fender lip is 24.5". It may vary a little after corner weighting.

GT9111 - The wheels are pretty light. I think the car actually rides better on the street. With the track tire I'm using, I think the tire and wheel package may be lighter than my stock 17". I will try to weigh them in the near future. As far as handling goes, I'm using the RA-1's because Tire Rack was out of stock of the Michelin Pilot Sport Cups I used last year. The RA-1's at full tread depth and do not have as much grip as my 17" Michelin's. I'm not sure I can make a far comparison until I get some new Michelin's.

Oddjob - My front tire is inside the fender well with a 50mm offset.

Ray's engineering is the same company that makes the TE37 wheels, wheels for the Track model Nissan as well as the Nismo wheels offered by Nissan dealers. I have not heard of any problems with failures of these wheels in track use and they are a high quality light weight wheel.

These wheels are forged construction as are the latest BBS wheels for Porsche and they all weigh in about the same. Even the BBS forged wheels are made in Japan.

Nissan 18" Nismo wheel picture, note similarity to TE37:

Kavo-
Could you elaborate a little on the lug nuts please:
Were they provided with the wheels?
Are they tubular so they can be used with longer wheels studs?
Are they steel or alloy?
Are extras easily available?

BTW where did you buy the wheels and do you mind sharing what you paid for them?

Cupcar, yes they are perfect for the track. But my brother has a few friends that damaged (cracked) their TE37s when they hit potholes on B-roads.

I thought for a long time as to whether I should swap them for my Ruf speedlines but couldn't muster enough courage to go for the bronze look. I wouldn't mind the deep blue magnesium versions but they cost the sky and the moon and part of the sun.

Cupcar - The lug nuts were not provided with the wheels. The place I bought them from thought that the stock lug nuts would work. When I tried the stock lug nuts they did not seem to seat properly. I bought the wheels from GMP Performance.

I had to source the lug nuts from a local place because I needed them the next day. I was going to the track and wanted to try my new wheels and tires. I got a set of open end or tubular, zinc coated, steel lugs. That was all I could get by the next day. I'm still looking for a black set so they will look better with the wheels. I bought the lugs from H & H Performance.

The wheel cost me about $2400 with shipping.
