Default Gates Barricade Fuel inj hose bend radius?

Anyone use the new Gates Barricade hose on an '86
yet? I cant get it to bend to do the center rear hose (the one with the 90 degree ends) without flattening the hose somewhat.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I ran with this for awhile (coil of insulated solid copper 12 ga. wire) to prevent kinking. I eventually replaced this hose with the proper formed one, though.

I use this technique from time to time on various (usually low pressure) hoses that would kink otherwise.

funny,
when I redid my fuel lines, I felt as though I made that line to short.
I always wondered if it was part of my post intake refresh problems.
I eventually pulled everything apart and made that hose longer.
Mine did not have those long metal ends.

I love that you guys are using hose with screw style clamps, where Porsche insisted that the hoses be crimped....Porsche had hose with clamps to use, if it would have been adequate....and could have saved a lot of money doing it this way!

As I mentioned in another post, there's way too many of these vehicles still left, for them to be really rare and valuable.

Fire is such a great way to eliminate some of the "excess" vehicles.

Curious to know where they "insisted" upon crimps. They used them certainly, but you don't need a crimp to hold back marginal fuel pressures. They sold cars with crimped hoses, but that's far from insisting upon anything. It is far more expensive to produce hose with clamps than it is to produce crimped hose. You can easily machine produce crimped hose; you cannot do so with clamps. The effectiveness of a crimp is equal to that of a good clamp. Note the word "good" - the clamps you buy at Auto Zone aren't good by any stretch of the imagination.

The Bosch supplied fuel injection hose replacement kits for many cars have clamps, and Porsche uses a Bosch design...just saying. Do it right, it is safe. Do it otherwise, crimp or clamp, and you incur risk.

Greg, I went with the only option I was aware of at the time I did mine. It was only later that I discovered that you had a much better alternative, which I would have used (and probably will switch to sometime).

You really need to promote your stuff more... I'm sure you'd move a lot of mechandise if we just knew about it and how to acquire it. Make your signature link to your website, get some photos of the various products that are apparently available (based on the times I've stumbled upon references in various Rennlist threads), and stick them on your product page.

Rather than criticizing people for making the "wrong choice," make it easier for us to do it the better way!

Jim,
On the 86 run the hose further back and under the fuel cooler until you get a satisfactory bend.
The EFI hose and EFI clamp method far exceeds the low pressure we see in our cars. A safe and economical way of ensuring your cars fuel hoses are of the very best standard. The new Gates hose is also fully CARB compliant and is safe with all that strange s**t that they put in the gas these days.
I do also sell some exceptionally high quality fuel hoses made by Mr. Greg Brown for those that want that extra level of quality and safety. They are the very best you can buy.

I don't really care what people do to their own vehicles. I figured out, many years ago, that I couldn't possibly fix or supply fixes to everyone who works on their own cars, much less the people that work on their own 928's.

Roger sells my hoses, when he is able. Roger is now selling a larger quantity of my products and I hope he continues to keep adding my "few pieces" to his own considerable excellent "offerings".

It makes no sense for me to make waves in Roger's pond....and I'm not trying to do that.

Roger knows that I'm utterly aghast that he sells this Gates hose to 928 people. I understand that not all 928 people "think" that they can afford to buy the "proper" replacement hoses. I understand that Roger is always trying to find "ecconomical alternatives" for these cars....and I generally approve. However, I simply couldn't afford to buy enough insurance to "cover my ***" against someone using this hose in the 928 application. Gates clearly states, with-in three sentences of talking about this hoses....on any of their Websites which discuss if this hose is suitable to a particular use....that this hose is not to be used on barbed fittings that were originally designed for plastic hose....which is what all people with 928's are attaching this hose to!!!

Gates clearly states that this hose could be "cut" by the sharp edges of these barbed fittings.

It's the incorrect application. Great idea. Ecconomical...on the surface.

It's all fine and dandy until a car catches on fire and someone (hopefully not) gets hurt. At that point, you better pray you've done everything right and completely by the "book". Insurance companies, today, employ entire departments full of people who investigate fires....and they keep fire experts on "retainer" 24 hours a day....they are tired of paying for losses that they shouldn't pay for! (Ask me about the small "fire" at my house.....sure "opened" my eyes!)

If there's a fire caused by using this Gates "Barrier" hose on a barbed fitting.....the "gig" will be up...and if anyone gets hurt in that fire........................
