Default What alternate TPS units fit our throttle bodies?

Interested in getting a list together. Criteria: inexpensive, not NLA and readily available new/used, direct fit, has a potentiometer just like the stock 951 TPS.

Note that this isn't meant to be plug and play with the stock Motronic setup. This is for standalone setups primarily.

I know a few BMW parts fit, but the ones with potentiometers seem to have a weird round plug. Maybe I haven't found the right one yet. Some Audi parts also seem to work but I don't have much info.

The Audi plug and play options are no cheaper as I recall, but are an option for stock people when OE stock is unavailable. I replaced mine when I went to VEMS as my original was sporadically bad and looked around as VEMS can use almost anyTPS that physically fits (you calibrate the limits within VEMS). Some Audis (1999-2003 2.8 auto is one that I can recall) use the same plug connection and pin layout as our cars, others will require a pigtail or chopping up the factory harness. I would shoot Raceboy a message; he is exceedingly knowledgeable about these things.

Almost any late 80s and up BMW/Volvo/MB/even Jaguar has the right "type" of TPS (D-shaft pot type). But they usually have a 3-pin JT/JPT plug (power, ground, pot)
All you have to do is figure out which pin is which and know the resistance range.

And be sure it goes on the same side as there are left and right ones. I bought audi/vw one that clicks at WOT.

Did you just have to bring the TPS away from the mounting area a little? I did something similar with the 951 TPS currently on my NA, as the screws were tightened I found that the O-ring around the shaft receptacle would bottom out and the 2 ears would bend before the screws were all the way snug. A small washer between each ear and the throttle body solved that.

These bosch tps units are direct fit for 951 TB, no modifications needed. (this one on the picture is wrong number though as it needs tb that opens clockwise. 951 closes clockwise)

So then modifications are needed.

It can't be modified.

This type of bosch tps housing fits without modifications. There are however clockwise and counterclockwise versions of this same TPS. You just need to buy the right one.

You're sure this 3pin TPS is true variable resistance TPS and not just idle/WOT switch?

Also 951 uses 6pin TPS.

The aftermarket TPS I found is less than half the price of a Bosch, 6 pins, and looks virtually identical. The only thing to find out is if the resistances are the same and if it has thr built in switch. I might phone and find out if I have a chance.

Just called. All the guy said was it's for the '86 to '89 944, OEM spec. At $112USD, it's a much cheaper direct replacement than the Bosch unit.
