Call Roger Brown at California Motorsports. He's had custom 968 transmission parts made in the past, such as a ring and pinion set. Probably made by Albins in Australia but dunno for sure. Good luck!

There are quite a few, including 5-speed versions. Many are set up for FWD without the rear output shaft.

968 version is mentioned a few scrolls down. Or, here: http://www.elektro.com/~audi/01E/ind3.html

I also second the recommendation to contact California Motorsports: https://californiamotorsports.net/

Maybe the Audi B5 A4 STW/BTCC Touring cars has gears you can use? Many were actually FWD, and used a sequential transmission. No idea what normal transmission it is based on, if any.

Looks a little different though! According to this post, the gears are all Audi parts: http://www.clubgti.com/showthread.ph...=1#post1690962 . The rest of the thread is mostly about the engine.

Thanks all for the continuing suggestions. Keep 'em coming. Getting a viable alternative to the stock 968 box without having to spend stupid money on full sequential is very attractive. You wonder why they even made this one 6 speed box just for the 968 rather than modifying something else.

I actually sourced my current gearbox via Roger at CMS. We've spoken briefly in the past about different options and yes, they have sourced alternative gearsets from Albins Down Under. I've already asked Albins if they have any Dog sets for the 968 box. Succinct answer was "No". Might have to ask how much to make one set..I'm guessing a LOT. Even then, not sure yet how possible it would be to adapt the SQS shifter mechanism to this gearbox. So might have to go back down the path of fitting a different gearbox and making it work. All this adds to the potential costs, although perhaps purchasing one of the Audi boxes from Europe sounds cheap enough.

Just had a reply from PPG who say their Dog set was designed for a Transaxle 2wd box. Need to confirm just which box this is for. Maybe someone commissioned a set for a 968 racecar. That would be good..except the ratios may be too short.
Can anyone think of another version of these gearboxes that were used in a Transaxle configuration??

Just looking at the different ratios for the gears, I wonder how usable these PPG ones would be for us. Anyone have a gearing calculator to hand?

Porsche stock 968 gears
1st = 3.1782, 2nd = 2.000, 3rd = 1.435, 4th = 1.111, 5th = 0.912, 6th = 0.778, Rev. = 3.455 Final drive 3.778

PPG Dog Set ratios

Ratios: 2.545 / 1.500 / 1.200 / 0.913 / 0.750 / 0.666 3.778

Did a quick calc and something doesn't seem quite right. Either I'm way off or need a custom Ring & Pinion lol...

Gee, 2500 UKP? They are indeed capable of withstanding big power but selling 200euro gearbox for more than ten times the price? There are many types of them available, some (A8 2.5TDI ones) have gearbox coolers and there are different ratios, most of them are with quite tall gearing.

Here are some ratios to get the idea:

Thanks Peep. I'm looking for a Dog set though, so the stock gears aren't applicable. Well except for final drive which I'd prefer to stay with all thing$ considered.

Yes, seemingly Thom although I've had similar results via another online calculator. Something doesn't seem right unless they're designed to work with a different r&p ? I have an editable gear calc sheet somewhere. I'm just trying to see what these gears offered locally look like through the range and what speeds/rpm they offer.

Albans in AU can do the same thing. The issue is having to pay around 50k to have it done. because then going sequential will cost the same.

If Samsonas can rebuild the box to a dog box for under 10k. Then it might be worth it.

Are you sure they're sure of what version the 968 box is? They might be thinking it's another of the Audi ones?

I know Samsonas, their boxes are quite widely used around here. They are just 600km south from me They change the innards of the box completely, there's no difference if it is Audi or Porsche 01E box.
