30 year old technology better engineered? What a ridiculous thing to say, so distributor cap and rotors are also better than todays technology too!

He didn't say better technology, he said a better engineered car. It's probably more about the total driving experience than the sum of separate parts, so it will always be debatable.

I don't get this thread...must be getting old.

A problem is the 1 series inherent instability at speed. All of them, the 1M included. The 951 does not have that problem.
You cannot drive hard with the 1's like a 951 and expect it not to break. The 951 however will endure.
The 951 is better balanced.
The 1 series is not a sports car like the 944, and is flawed by design.

Engineering is based on technology and innovation involved in creating the finished product based on the latest resources available, thats why cars are more computerized now and there are more sensors in the engine and fault codes on DME that show more precise and accurate information with scanners, thats why we use timing chains instead of belts

I never mentioned the engine. Nor was I talking about it. I was talking about the better engineered performance car. I have 15+ years seat time in stock to 400+whp 951's. I owned a modded 135i and currently own a modded 1M. I am not talking arbitrarily. Owners experience.

Not throwing gas on either side's fire but, owned the 944 series cars since 1990.
Bought my daughter a 330i, sport package, MT when she turned 17.
I've had to do quite a few repairs to the BMW, now with about 120k on the clock.
By comparison, about 8 years ago, I happened upon an abandoned 1987 944NA at a wrecker impound that was towed from side of the road with a flat tire and damaged wheel that the owner never even bothered to retrieve. Tow service owner acquired ownership via storage fees and I paid him $500 for it.
120k on the clock so I pulled the cylinder head and had it freshened (same stock 1987 bottom end today except for two rod bearing changes) and turned it into a DE car for my son. He DE'd for a year, got his Porsche racing license and had done 45 PCA races with the car until it was totalled at Hallet by an errant 911 driver 5th on a grid of 45 cars.
The engine still sits on a furniture rolling dolly ready to go back into service if his current race engine fails. Same for the transmission....1 set of synchros.
A "maintenance" item for the BMW at 100k (unless you have already been stranded on the road) consists of
Radiator, radiator expansion tank, all coolant hoses, water pump, water pump pulley (made of plastic composite) all front pulleys and rollers.
LOL, compared to Porsche, my own personal joke around my house is - BMW = plastic Porsche.

I get your point. And I agree that the N54 is a phenomenal engine. There's a reason they kept it for the 1M instead of going with the current N55. Plus, I picked up the 135i in the first place for all the reasons you stated on the first page. If you guys think these cars are good, you should pick up a Cayman S. Better than both, and the best performance bargain currently on the market imho. That should **** someone off....lol

In her? Nikasil bores, Wossner pistons and rods, stand alone EMS, solid lifters, list is long - consistent high 400+ whp/tq with ****ty California 91 pump and meth injection. Owner, Jeff, still brings her to our annual sports car trip to my place in Greer, AZ. Fast - well sorted 951.

350 BPH 951 - flywheel? If so, in these cars easily done. My favorite past "HOT" 2.5 dyno sheet attached. This car drove better than the dyno chart. Stock injectors, stock cam, old school chips with MAF, downpipe only, etc. Very little lag with the K27/6 KKK factory stock turbo.
Notice the date of the dyno - back then, don't recall any cars accelerating faster once moving.
