Another day, another small shipment of parts to order... Previously, during a compression test before the build, cylinder 3 wasn't doing too good. Here's the culprit:

Badly pitted exhaust valve for cylinder 3 (circled part is a hole)

+ since the shipping cost for 1 or 4 valves isn't much of a difference, gonna just go ahead and replace all 4 (cylinder 4 was not super great on the compression too anyway). Intake valves are all ok, cylinder walls are all perfect as well.

Keep going. It will be a valuable car once it complete.
I am going through similar pain with a 2.5 n/a and am going to see an early turbo tomorrow. I will never learn!

No new update this week, shop bought a new sand-blasting machine, so mech's gonna use it to clean up the engine bits

Project update! While the main chassis of the car is still sitting on the hoist with most of its bits removed, the "heart" of the build, meaning the engine, was subject to a nice workover and cleaning up before it was finally*pieced back together.

Just some wiring and final touchups to go before it eventually goes back into the car. My fingers and toes are all crossed that it'll start to purr properly soon.

The engine bay was also given a coat of flat back since everything inside was removed. Most of the extra bits and pieces for the engine bay have been added in as well.

At the same time, with everything out, we noticed that this car has a slight front right fender bender at one time in its life. Not a huge biggie to me but a slight downer seeing it nonetheless.

The front shocks were finishing their rebuild when i last saw. Once done, they will be fitted back into the car, the wheels will go on and the engine will be slotted back in. Then, it's off to the another*shop to sort out the air conditioning piping which was previously done in a slipshod fashion and was in quite a mess.

Brand new front indicator lenses and used original foggies have been fitted. Those foggies are really hard to find! (Thanks Lart!) Next up will be trying to get a Batwing undertray shipped over.

Slowly everything is now starting to come back together bit by bit and hopefully we'll get to see the car start to take shape in a month maybe?

On the way out from the shop, spotted this poor 911 sitting nearby. It's been in this same spot for as long as i got the 944, sadly very neglected and unloved. I wonder what happened.

Nice progress.

I hope you didn't actually sand blasted the engine with sand since sand inside is a sure catastrophic failure. You used soda or ice or something right?

Progress not too quick but at least things are moving, engine is fitted back into the car. Wiring is now being tidied up in preparation for a engine-start test.

This is also the intercooler that came with the car, anyone know if it's a Lindsey Racing part? (it'll only fit if i used the Stage V front header panel)

One BIG problem though, as my mech was about to start on fitting a new Torsion bar, 4 of the rear subframe bolts sheared straight off with just a light touch. Just broke off.

Any ideas how i can get those stuck bolts out and where i can buy new ones? I understand there are eccentric bolts inside, are those Porsche 944 specific parts?

Thanks for any help!

OK, need help now.

I went to take a look at the rebuild last night, engine is in, car starts, car moves, but now that we've gotten the car drivable, more issues have surfaced, mainly to do with the drivetrain.

The clutch is slipping so i'll be needed a new clutch (had actually bought a 2nd hand unit, but it still slips), new bearings for the diff and gearbox. And also the torque tube bearings. Is http://www.blackseard.com/ the only place selling replacement bearings? I can't find them anywhere else.

Also, for the rear hatch, does it open automatically when you turn the key? For mine, i need to manually lift it up with the key turned to get the hatch up. It doesn't pop up whatsoever, just wondering that's normal.

Project $$$ pit

Congrats on getting it moving! Hopefully that will give you the needed motivation to keep going and finish it off.

Your hatch should pop up a bit when you turn the key. And then you lift it up all the way...that's what mine does anyway.

Thanks bud.... fingers crossed it'll turn out fine...

car has been towed to the paintshop for paint (Porsche L37W) and hopefully they can fix my windscreen crack and rear hatch delamination.

After paint it'll be back into the workshop for a new clutch / rear diff bearings / trans bearings / torque tube bearings and to fix the horrible rear ride height
