Brake pads: PAGID or EBC
#16
I ran ebc yellow for a year and now bluestuff. I prefer bluestuff, better braking, better endurance and very progressive and the price is half pagid yellow. They are not too ruff on the rotor and are good for track and street.

I do Autocross and street, no track (yet). When I looked at the options on R1 concepts website they mentioned EBC red stuff. Seems like there are a lot of options. Any updated recommendations?

He is referring to EBC pads - the internet is full of bad reviews. I did use EBC yellow stuff this year and never had issue with my brakes during 8 track days. Will try EBC blue stuff next year – will see if they will work as good as yellow stuff. Our cars are relatively light thus this might be a reason why I did not have any issues with them.

Three Wheelin'
Pagid blacks are a bit aggressive for mostly street use and only occasional track days. They actually stop better than you'd think when cold, but not as well as a more street-oriented pad. Plus they are very noisy and make a lot of brake dust. I live with this on my 951 that is still driven on the street regularly, but it is pretty much a track car at this point (all metal suspension bushings, low/stiff, etc). If your car is more at the street end of the spectrum, I don't know if you'd be happy with Pagid Blacks.
They are great on track, however, nice bite and modulation characteristics. However, each driver has his/her own preferences, and I know plenty of people who hate Pagids and prefer PFC, Raybestos, etc, and vice versa. Craig or one of the other vendors here will likely be able to steer you in the right direction.
The problem is that it's difficult to find a one-size-fits-all pad. The Pagid 4-2-1 blue pads are good for aggressive street and occasional track use, but they aren't as good on track as Orange or Black (Orange isn't quite as aggressive as Black, but is just as noisy/dusty on the street).
Some people swap pads at the track, but I don't like the idea of different pad compounds building up on the same rotors; neither compound will work optimally.
Sorry for what is kind of a non-answer, but this is one area where there will pretty much always be a compromise one way or the other.

New to tracking my 951 during past 3 years, but I use Pagid black for the track and Pagid Street for the street. Blacks are way too noisy for me to use on the street and the blacks come highy recommended by a friend how has tracked for 30 years. He runs a GT3 and his sons have one 951 and two 944's. All run Blacks and are track only cars. I've really liked them so far, good wearability and stopping power. I don't really mind swapping them out. Just want to be able to stop without worry.

I've never tried to have a dual purpose pad. I took my student to Goldcrest at the last DE and they recommended the Orange to him, as well. It was a 991, not a 944, but I by all means respect was they (Bob S/, in this case, but Steve C. is just as sharp) have to say.
I'd probably suggest Hawk Blues. But in reality, I'd recommend changing pads.

Former Vendor
Droops 83 above has great advice - and typically Blacks and Yellows are squeaky on the street -
EBC: Many complaints from users of these, oooh sooo many...
Hawk Blues stop like the dickens, but are TOUGH tough on wheels and wheel finishes via globs of cemented pad residue, and brutal on rotors. Which is one reason they are so popular on Spec Miatas and $29 rotors, lol
PFC tend to be a tad quieter in general, over all
YMMV

I run Pagid black in front and orange in the back. Super squeaky on the street, and dusty. My car is 50/50 track and street. I really like it but wouldn't run it if it was only a street car because of the noise and dust.

Pagid recently announced that the Sport compound will no longer be produced and they confirmed that decision at our recent Distributor meeting during the PRI show in Indianapolis. We still have limited availability of this compound on the shelf but when they're gone, they're gone. As easy as it is to change pads, the OP may consider having street pads and track pads. RS14 (Black), RS29 (Yellow) & RS44 (Orange) are readily available.
