alright, I was able to get a full 360 degree turn on the pulley..as it turned I listened for rattling and didn't hear anything. didn't hear anything really - what should be done next? reassemble everything and try to start? hesitant to do that

No, you'll know it has compression if you feel it. If you turn the motor over with plugs in and there ISN'T compression, it will be very obvious because it will turn over exactly the same as without the plugs in, in terms of torque needed to turn the ratchet on the crank. If there is compression, when you get each piston to its compression stroke with the plugs in, it will be much more difficult to turn the motor over. It MAY feel like its siezed, but you just proved it isnt so if it gets tough to turn, thats a good thing, just crank on it.

If it doesn't have compression it'll feel the same. And a big chance you bent valves.

All this is really telling you is whether or not there has been a disaster, or just an oops in reassebling the stuff you messed around with. I am still guessing that you forgot to tighten or fasten something fuel rail related.

put the plugs back in and while it felt the same at first, it gradually became harder to turn the crank to where i had to put a lot more effort into it. then it would be easier again, and then more difficult. is this because its moving through a different stroke
