Default New windshield - antenna version or no?

Have the antenna version currently, use the radio all the time. Can I assume that getting the version with the antenna actually matters for reception?

Co$t$ more dollar$ with the antenna. Want to make sure it really matters.

TIA!

Jeff

I just had one installed in Nov in the black car and went without; with CD, iPhone connection, and XM/Sirius deck, don't really need it but up to the individual.

Lol - do you really think Porsche would have bothered to put an antenna in the windshield if it wasn't actually needed for reception??

I guess you have 2 choices: either pay the extra $$, or change your radio-listening habits.

I'm with you Van but you never know...someone might say 'hook that lead to the firewall and you're good to go'. Just sayin.... that would be $200 back to me.

My windshield with the antenna installed by Safelite was about $450. I also had quotes for over $900. Prices for these seem to be all over the board. I have been happy with the Safelite one.

I got the windshield w/o antenna for $175. I have not attached the antenna to anything, i get horrible reception, but like Ski, I just use my ipod / cell phone or listen to CDs. If you want radio, you could probably use an app like I heart radio.

Safelite with - $475. Safelite without - $250.

I know my non-radio options; I think everyone has confirmed that you should get it if want radio reception.

Calculate how many years or miles of service you can get out of a windshield.

Divide price difference with time or distance. I bet you will be paying a very little sum per year to keep the car as good or better than original.

The windshield with antenna is the correct Sekruit glass with the trim channel and rearview mirror button already attached and black-masked. It will also use the factory style trim.

The non-antenna windshield is an aftermarket (Chinese) 924 windshield. It can be fitted if the installer takes the time to prep (remove all the old urethane, prime, etc). It does not have the mirror button attached, nor is it black-masked. It uses generic edge-mounted trim which is 1.2-2mm wider than the factory trim. Radio does not function correctly unless connect a separate antenna.

I'm on my 5th windshield. Get the antenna glass.

Ah...thanks Curt. That's the secret decoder ring - factory glass with the antenna, chinese glass without.

Most appreciated.
