Default 1986 944 turbo speedometer not working

Hey everybody,

I need some help with my speedometer and what better them talk to all of the Porsche gurus. My speedometer is not working at all. It worked for a couple months after I bought it then one day notta. I changed the impulse sensor and checked the gear. Still nothing. I have the cluster out but they enclosed that sucker like fort knox. So what should be my next step? Also, anybody know where I can get a wiring schematic? Thanks everyone!

I don't know what the impulse sensor is, but when my speedometer stopped working i replaced a cylindrical piece that rotates on the transmission. Its the sensor that detects the speed. Hard to explain, but it's not that hard to find. Mine was toward the front of the car on the drivers side on the transmission.

Yea that was what I replaced. The gear is made of metal so I lubbed it up and replaced the sensor above it.

Yup. http://the944.com/manuals.htm

If you have a scope, check that the pulses from the trany sensor are getting to the dash.

What gear?? The sensor just bolts to the trany and you connect the connector to the top of the sensor.

This was the culprit for me. the way the connector connects is a little winglets pressured onto each other... If, when you connected it you put a bit too much pressure its possible you pushed the sensor side connector down a bit and the two little metal parts now dont touch.

Unbolt the sensor out, check inside the sensor's connector see the little metal plates and pull them out a little bit to make sure they connect when you place it back.

Wiggling the sensor will also cause this push back on the little metal winglets, so be gentle!
