Default Brake Upgrade....86T Only

I'm going to chronicle what I'm doing to a 1-off BBK for the 86 951. Thicker yet Light-weight Wilwood rotors and billet hats.....10.5 LBs total compared to the all steel 951 rotor at 16.2 Lbs.......Built a set a few years ago and forgot what I did LOL. Dejavu......

Mill down the inner rotor sweep nodules to clear the 32mm thick rotor....

Take off 150 thousandths from the spindle ear interfaces....

Drill and countersink the hat (1.5 Lbs) to the Early Porsche hub PCD 127mm...

Drill and tap the Billet hat for 8 x 7" PCD for the Wilwood rotor (Weighs 9Lbs)

What type brake fluid did the 86T use? I'm replacing the piston seals and re-installing the pistons.

I had to trim 1mm from each side of the pad shims for the thicker rotors....

I always use Red Loc-tite on my Rotor/hat bolts, but I went the extra distance and cross-drilled each one for safety wire for whoever acquires this set.....

I lightened the hats even more by cross-drilling the thicker portions on the same 5 x 127mm pattern......T-6061 T6 hats will keep the heat off the hubs/bearings....

I second that question and is this only the front set or the whole set?

Ha sorry should have been more specific.

Did you source the top hat or did you custom machine it. I'm aware it is Al....

I machined it from a 911 top-hat I had on the shelf for a couple years. Removed even more weight from it with the perimeter holes that will radiate more heat away from the hubs.

These hats do not exist elsewhere as they are 8x7" PCD specifically designed for the Wilwood rotors. You could mount a 13" Wilwood rotor as well and adapt bigger calipers later if you choose.

i've been getting lousy braking to the rears. running GTS brakes in the front, i can get them to lock up. but not the rears... also i need to push down pretty hard to get good braking.... on the left rears, the rotors aren't shedding the small amount of rust that builds up near as quick as they should.... i haven't changed the fluid in a while [like, maybe 16 k miles]... still, i suspect my 19 year old rotors are, [as in, of course they are] shot.

running a 5-33 valve, but still never great braking back, there.

wondering if i'm better off with beefier rear brakes. preferably aftermarket.

thoughts ?
