Default 24-pin and 28-pin DME, functional differences?

I need an extra DME for my 951-90 (euro spec), 28-pin unit.
Unfortunately used 28-pin DMEs are hard to find over here but I was just offered a 24-pin unit that had been converted to 28-pin.

The questions is if there are any functional differences at all between the units?
Could there be any functionality that won't work as intended (lambda?) with the converted 24-pin unit?

What was the reason for changing to 28-pin memories?

Half the code was hard programmed in the CPU for the 24 pin version. Going to the 28 pin EPROM allowed all the code to be available for changes. If you add the pins and the jumper, you can make a 24 pin into a 28 pin DME.

I have a 28-pin DME with no chip that I don't need if you are looking for a spare.
