It is controlled via the DME/KLR. On turbo cars there is a small plug where the Tach signal/oil level among other things is sent out. That as far as I know is where the boost signal is sent to the dash gauge. Altho it isn't that accurate and most choose to run an aftermarket gauge with a greater resolution.

Thanks Darwin, I am looking for wire colors or pin numbers and which of the 3 plugs on the back of the cluster to add the wires to ! I spent today chasing wires and making custom manual harness. Originally car was a tiptronic.

This thread may help -- it's the red-white wire in the red 4-wire connector under the glove box, but I've never traced it up to the cluster. I'm sure it's in the wiring manual...

Just to add to Toms post, in early Turbos (86) it is a 4 wire connector but in later turbos it is a 7-8 wire connector (not sure if it started in 87, but my car was the 7-8 wire connector).

The 968 electrical system is quite a bit different than a 951. Are you going to convert to a 951 gauge cluster? You may run into some interesting issues if you do that.
What are you running for engine management? The 968 DME is way different than a 951…..

I already changed the front body harness ( engine bay) to a 951 harness, I am trying to retain as much as possible of the 968 body harness.

Second day of dissecting the turbo harness... Maybe I'll practice my bundle lacing when I am done.

I had to modify your avatar to reflect your project…..’casue it takes some ***** to attempt what you are doing!!!

BTW – take note on the ignition system (968 & S2 use a different ignition power set up) – the A/C system is also powered differently, in the 968 the DME controls the A/C clutch.

Thanks for the new avatar. When I am done with it, it will be all turbo ignition system, as I did for the manual transmission harness ( 5 wires).
