Default Got my new transmission oil cooler kit

My old cooler was in very bad shape. New one is quite expensive and i also wanted something else. After a planning session with my friend, he fabricated a new cooler kit for me. Here's how it turned out

Yep, the silver parts - they fit in the transaxle (slip fit with O ring) and convert it to AN threaded.

Have not yet decided. Somewhere back most likely.

AN8

Are you sure they are AN?
One end is oem 944 style, another end AN8

Most likely not. If there is, an additional pump can be installed. After all this is the first kit my friend made. If it does not work he can act rapidly and make a one which will surely work

i just wonder why they dropped the cooler for the 968.
i was thinking of getting rid of the spare wheel well and bit of a scoop to get some air up around the trans

Do the non cooled 944 transmissions have the holes for the fittings? Would this be a possible way (with an external pump) to cool a non-cooled transmission?

"Do the non cooled 944 transmissions have the holes for the fittings? Would this be a possible way (with an external pump) to cool a non-cooled transmission? "
^^^^^^^^^
I belive the real issue is there is a small gear driven pump in the cooled trans that is used to move the coolan through the loop. With out this pump simply adding a cooler to a non cooled trans, even if the fittings are there, is a wast of time. I have seen some pump/loop kits for sale used here or on Pelican. If you do a search I am sure you can see all the parts I am talking about.

As to the cooler for this thread, very very cool-pardon the pun!!! What kind of cost did you end up with on the final kit?

In most cases adding this (my kit) to no-cooled transmission is not wise. Tonyg did it proper way, here's the URL https://rennlist.com/forums/944-turb...ns-cooler.html.
Since i have a cooled/lsd special Switzerland only S2 trans for my 951, it was way to go. My oem cooler was in very bad shap and i didn't want to invest almost $700 to a new one. All used ones i have seen have been in poor shape as well. This was a cost effective way to go.

I was thinking that one could use the drain and fill plugs to connect to the external oil cooler. The cooler would need a pump, and thermostat and cooling fans. This type of setup can be purchased from places like summit for a couple of hundred dollars.

That's exactly what I'm doing on my street/TT car. The guy that rebuilt my trans and installed my LSD suggested it (Greg Brown at Precision Motorwerks). He tapped the case and had a custom manifold built that will squirt the cooled oil on a couple of the gears and the diff. Of course, since my install is moving at a glacial pace the only part that's finished is the work he did. I have the electric pump (which I plan to mount above the muffler shield) and a Setrab cooler. Unless somebody has a better idea or I can think of a better place, I plan to mount the cooler in between the rear bumper and the body.

Olli, I'm curious why you'd point to the thread about TonyG's trans cooler as an example of the downside of this. I didn't see anything bad there.
