Default Fuel injectors not firing.

Car ran fine the day before. Next day it wouldn't start.

I have compression, fuel pressure, and spark. The car turns over fine. When I turn over the motor I build higher fuel pressure. I removed the spark plugs to check if they were getting wet with fuel. Bone dry.

What would cause the injectors not to fire? Please help.

DME relay?

Is the pump working?

If it is, then the DME isn't getting a speed or TDC signal - check the flywheel sensors.

Could also be a break in the fuel injector wiring harness.

Good thinking man. I took off both sensors. The speed sensor (at rear) is totally smashed in. I'm guessing I didn't have the .8mm of clearance. Too bad to, brand new sensor. So you're saying that this would cause the injectors to NOT fire? I hope this is all that is wrong.

Check the pic and tell me if you think this sensor is busted.

Yep - you need a new one.

Something could have gotten into the bell housing and "help" wear it down, too...

Everything is brand new. Has a Spec flywheel. Maybe I got something in there when I was working above that area.

So you think this sensor being busted would definitely keep the injectors from firing? If that is the case I feel very fortunate. I was going back and forth with John (Vitesse) about possible chip and DME failure. This will be an easy fix, just got to adjust the bracket so I have more clearance.

Thanks for your help Van.

Just a note on this thread, I had a similar problem and I had a wiring harness short/failure at one of the injector connections. We just happened to have extra connectors from an SAE college car harness, so we lucked out. My car is still sitting in my garage in Arlington though, not finished

Well I did check the entire harness back to the DME for anything that looked like a frayed wire or a burn mark. I don't have a continuity tester though. If installing the new speed sensor doesn't work I will check the harness over a bit more.

Did you loc-tite the trigger screw on the flywheel? Aluminum flywheels can have the trigger set screw back out easier than the stock steel unit.

Ditto this problem. Take and exacto knofe and open each one of the boots; $100 says you will find internal frayed wiring touching each other, shorting. Fix is 4 new (used) injector boots. just cut the two wire lead and solder the new ons in place. Easy fix and it will work.

Update.

I ordered a new sensor as this one is shot. I will inspect the injector boots as suggested. I'll keep everyone posted.

Found an old reference sensor laying around. Hooked it up after adjusting the bracket for more clearance. Car fired right up. Now I just have to dial in the idle. The idle fluctuates about 250 rpms up and down. It also gains another 250 rpms er so when I push in the clutch. I am guessing that is due to the aluminum flywheel being so much lighter than stock.

Van, I am in Glen Spey. About 20mins south of Monticello.

Cool! Glad to hear it's a pretty easy fix.
