How did you work out the angle to drill for the squirters ?

The workshop that installed it did this. They angled it to hit the exhaust side of the piston.

How is it compared to the GTX3076R? Do you feal much difference when driving? How much later does it spool? Backpressure? Thanks.

Default I guess I should update too

I am now running a GTX3576R instead of the GT3076R. Spool seems about the same to full boost (1 bar on street.) but not quite as dramatic an initial onset of boost. I suspect that there is more top end but I don't need it. My skills are behind the power this car makes.

I went GTX3076R 0.82 -> GTX3076R 1.06 -> GTX3576R 0.82, all running 1.2 bar of boost.

With the stock intake and 9R cam on my 3L 8V perhaps the best set up was the GTX3076R 1.06. It spooled ~300 rpm later than the GTX3076R .82, and felt more frantic than the GTX3576R 0.82, which spools hardly any later looking at the logs while feeling slightly lazier but allowing more torque from the moment it gets into boost. I probably picked 5 to 10% hp with the GTX3576R 0.82 but the engine felt smoother and more lively with the GTX3076R 1.06.

The GTX3076R 0.82 made the strongest mid range, at the cost of running out of breath past 5500 rpm and actually putting too much strain on the block as I regularly got coolant overflow then.

I will be staying with the GTX3576R 0.82 as my soon-to-be-reinstalled custom intake will give it the room it needs to maximize top end power, even for street use, and even if it does not spool as convincingly as the GTX3076R 1.06.

If a Euro guy is looking for a GTX3076R with either the 0.82 or 1.06 (or both) Tial V-band turbine housings, pm me an offer.

Just for the record, spool considerations with these GT turbos is not so much important as when running a KKK-style turbine, as the breathing ability beyond 6k rpm is MUCH improved and by then it does not really matter anymore if the turbo reaches, say, 1 bar of boost at 3k rpm, as there is nearly none of the parachute effect that shows it ugly face when revving past ~5500rpm with a KKK-style turbine. Freeing up about 1k rpm worth of usable power band up top more than compensates IMO for the couple of hundreds rpm of spool that may be lost down low. At least that's how I felt when I first upgraded from my T4/KKK hybrid to the GTX3076R 0.82.

Rich, weren't you first running a GT3582R 0.82 on your 3L? Any reason why you replaced it with a GT3076R?

No my first turbo was a GT3076R 1.06. Something happened to it and I started seeing turbo out air temps of 300-500°F. Thought about getting it rebuilt but went to GTX3582R. I forget the A/R on it. I may try to have the GT3076R rebuilt into a GTX. Is that even possible?

Sorry I got lost - are you running a GTX3576R or a GTX3582R now?

You can have your GT3076R rebuilt into a GTX3076R since only the compressor wheel differs. The compressor housing is also perhaps slightly different.

Sorry for the confusion. I keep using the phone app and it is harder to proof things here. I have a GTX3582R.

Hi Tommy -

Probably not much chance you're still on this list but just in case, can you tell me the make and weight of the flywheel you used, maybe some impression of how that worked for you? I'll be installing a Spec III+ in my 89 S2 next month and haven't made up my mind on the lightweight flywheel. I've heard not to go lighter than 16 lbs on a 944 engine as it can cause harmonic balance problems and problems with the TT, but there are so few 3.0L Turbos I've never heard from anyone who's done it for that motor (as if any of them were the same).

Does anyone have the information on how much stock S2 clutch and fw combo weights?

The pin is in

Now I have to somehow confirm that alusil exposure was done correctly. Any ideas? Profilometer should do the job, but I don't know where to find it..

Looks very similar to the blocks we have refinished here in Sydney.
Here is one of our latest 3.0ltr blocks. First pictures with a dry bore, you can see its got a slight matt finish to it, the last one with the pistons installed and oil on the bore. I take it your machine shop has done this finish before, if so i think you can trust their work
