Default A better boost controller? Please!

recieved my new greddy profec b spec 2. Read the manual - sent it back

What a total dissapointment: Setting boost through arbitrary % values set/gain/set gain/warn/limit is absurd.

"To get lowest lag set gain, but set it too high will boost spike, and the only way to set it properly is to repeatedly subject your car to the overboost/spiking ] until you get it tuned..... which if you are responsible is nearly immposible on the street.

Is there really not an EBC out there that is designed well enough to allow boost control via PSI or KPA. instead of arbitrary % values???

I hate the black **** approach - and really wanted an EBC with overboost safety: Suggestion anyone????

Thanks in advance

I am not intimidated by difficulty or setup.

As I understand it, in order to get the optimum settings (least lag - without boost spike) there is no way around numerous spikes. It is rediculous to invest this kind of $ into an engine/car to expose it to repeated overboost or spikes to tune it. Am I alone on that?

You should have waited, and people from here would have gladly helped you with the set-up? There were a few threads a while ago on this topic too. I have the same exact model as you sitting in a box brand new, but think I'm going to sell it because I have my eye on another EBC. For me, I really don't care for the MBC, been there done that. Anyway as you know, there are many advantages to having an EBC over the MBC. Oh well, live and learn.

My friends are developing a boost controller that uses much more sophisticated algorithms to handle the control. They have a working model. I will be using one on my gizmachi. I am going to try and convince them to sell on rennlist when they go live.

Lemmee guess. . . They "outsourced" the manual-writing to India or China?

The best was the warning label on the fuse panel of my old Isuzu Impulse - it read (and I kid you not):

"Uses caution when fuse changing so as to be prevent the cause of fire".

SBC ID. It's the best boost controller IMO and it has "auto" gain so it's simple setup.

You don't have to have big spikes. That's why you start off low like 5 or 10 (usually it's a ratio of 0-100) and slowly work your way up. You will have to adjust your boost "ratio" as well otherwise you can get large spikes. It's not that big a deal. It's a bit more technically involving however this does not make it a "low" quality boost controller.

The AEM Truboost is a pretty nice boost controller. There are people using them in some pretty high horsepower stuff (like 1000+hp) running tons of boost and they seem to be fairly reliable. Not sure if they have an auto gain feature like the SBC ID, but it says that it's user adjustable.

I've got a turbosmart eboost that I have only taken out of the box and looked at. I was holding off getting some electrical problems solved before adding the eBoost. In light of the monetary relinquishment I looking at to get my car back with it's 2.8 liter upgrade I would begrudgingly part with it for $300. I was planning to put it on ebay next week.

It is an earlier version than the current one, but has all the features. It includes the solenoids and plumbing.

Before I bought the eBoost I called TurboSmart and asked why the boost controller used settings from 0 to 99 that didn't corestpond to actual boost pressure to set the device. IE. why can you just set it at 16psi? They said having a boost controller using the actual pressure to set with would require feedback/learning circuitry that would make the boost controller both more expensive and slower to respond to changes in pressure.

I got the eBoost because the documentation on how to set the boost pressure made the most sense to me.
