Hey guys,
The car is up and running, so I wanted to take a little break from the troubleshooting and do something fun. I PlastiDipped/DupliColor the car last night and yes that means I used both products together. I had to complete a little body work first but I think it turned out great. I hear constantly that you can't spray can an entire car with PlastiDip but it simply isn't true. The cost was well under $100 to do everything and I completed it in 5 hours. Check out the video!

No that's just temporary. Remember with PlastiDip it's totally peel-able and it separates perfectly in creases. All I have to do is take my thumb and rub on the emblem a bit and the PlastiDip on the emblem will peel away like skin. Trust me, I would never disrespect the brand like that. LOL

Here a link to my short clips of the car outside. Admittedly I still have a little work to do with a little better coverage.
But I'll just buy more and keep spraying

There is a video on dipyourcar.com that explains why doing it with spray cans may not be a good idea. The guy explains that to do it correctly requires about 50-75 cans of coating. Any less, and you can't peel it off as it wont come off in sheets...
Good luck!

The more you build up the better off you are.... but I can't imagine doing a whole car in rattle cans, not to mention I'd bet that you do need at least 20 cans to get a good base coat, and at Autozone prices that is more than $200.
You seem in to dipping and reasonably proficient, why not invest in a sprayer and buy it by the gallons so that you can control the product better?

I've bought a gun before and sprayed with a gallon. It was okay, but there is a technique to getting the thinner properly mixed and having the right gun, never use a $30 Decker buzz gun. I've had great results with the cans though. I buy my cans from Lowe's or Home Depot for $5.98 a can and I've never exceeded 15 cans so its extremely economical.
My point with the cans is to prove how inexpensive it can be to make your project car look decent. I want to encourage as many as possible to save these forgotten and neglected vehicles. There are plenty of videos out there showing how to dip a car with the gun, but that may not be an option for everyone. I just like to bust the myths.
Plasti Dip peels off very easy with enough coats and you can get the proper coverage with cans, without have to buy 50. LOL

Fair enough, if it works it works and I completely agree with your point :-) I've been using the DYC sprayer since the beginning aside from a couple of times where I used a can on emblems or wheels. Never thinned the gallons at all, I've just sprayed it straight.

oh snap, never tried that. hum, now that I think about it, it should work fine with enough PSI. I see using a gun again in my future but it will definitely be with a DYC gun.

DYC uses rebranded Earlex sprayers, but from all I've researched they are turning them around to consumers cheaper than you can buy them from any other retailer. And they may or may not be selling the guns with a tip optomized for this stuff. I have had lots of dealings with them and they really do help and give a crap.
