Default Windshield Washer Pump Troubleshooting

When I pull the stalk for the window washer system the wipers wipe but the pump does not activate.

I have:
1) full new fluid in reservoir
2) no fluid in lines leaving the pump to the nozzles
3) cleaned pump electrical contact points
4) no visible kinks/blockages in lines or spray points

Can I hook up a 12V battery to the pump to test if it is a pump problem?

Can I test relay #4 to see if that is the issue?

Thanks!

Yes, if the pump runs then check for 12v at the plug. Work backwards from there

Thanks, I think I need to work out a few electrical gremlins. Water pump, clock, wipers occasionally activate by themselves, but the most pressing is the temperature.

o I have a new thermostat and fan switch, but my temperature gauge creeps up to the "high" quick, and then either starts bouncing all over the place or drops down to normal. If I put the A/C on it quickly drops down to where it belongs (which sounds like a fan switch problem but it's not! ) I'll check the temperature gauge in the header this weekend. Any idea where the ground for that is?

o The temp gauge will also jump up a few degrees when I turn on the lights, and jump back down when I turn the lights off.

Most likely due to poor ground connections.

Suggest checking/cleaning connectors/crimps at all ground locations, especially the two on the bell housing in front of the fire wall.

Ok wow those might be hard to get to. Off the top of your head do you know what needs to be removed to reach those two points?

Aaron, when cleaning the grounds on the Bell Housing be sure to cover the Clutch Inspection Hole with tape or cloth. You do not want a bolt or washer falling down in Clutch AREA.

Cheers, Larry

You will probably have to move some wiring harness and vacuum hoses out of the way. Yes, things are tight back there. Difficult...maybe. But not impossible.

Thanks for the advice, I will try to clean all of the ground points and try not to drop something into the clutch area.
