Default ODO Gear Help. '87 NA

Fellow Enthusiasts:

Replacing my ODO Gear, here's what's done so far:
- Everything out. Cluster out, and I see the broken gear
- No matter how much I try, can't pull the needle up to remove it for access to the inside. Don't want to damage it.
- I rotate it according to "odometer gears.com" site and try to pull up.. NOTHING.
- Don't want to damage it

Any pointers? Can I just replace it from the side where I see the gear without removing the front faceplate?

Thanks in advance.

gently turn the speedometer needle clockwise and it will eventually start to come free from the central shaft. You shouldn't need to use much force at all.

You'll need to remove the speedometer face to replace the odometer gear.

Got it, but the instructions say to turn it COUNTER-clockwise until you feel is stop. Tried that a few times, but don't want to overdo it. I'll try again tonight.

Thanks.

DONE! I was able to get it off using a fork to pull it up, and put a piece of cloth under it. EASY!

Thanks!

Before replacing gear check it for ANY plastic flash from molding. I have not heard of turning the needle to remove from shaft. It takes time but will come off and sounds like you figured it out.
