Default Clutch rattle

So just yesterday my clutch started to make a rattling sound when it is disengaged. When I push the clutch in the rattling sound stops. Now I'm still learning all this car stuff but to the best of my knowledge my pilot bearing is going out. Is this correct? Any suggestions would be awesome. Thanks.

I know this is not what you want to hear, whatever its a pilot bearing or pressure plate rattling in there, it most likely have to come apart to fix it. I don't know if this would work and may be a long shot, maybe remove the starter and check if the pressure plate bolts are loose?

I'll give that a try. Thank you. But that rattle is for sure the bearing or pressure plate? Thanks for the help!

It may be the release bearing coming apart..pilot bearings are usually pretty trustworthy...how many miles on this car? If you pull the starter, there is also an inspection rubber plug down there..pull both and stick a magnet down inside the bellhousing..if it comes up with a bunch of metal stuck to it...you may be in trouble..should be just a fiberous dust inside...Does your car have the rubber torsion damper in it too? Those have been known to disintigrate overtime also..sorry to be the bearer of bad news here..but IF your car does have the rubber damper, and IF you have to replace the clutch, do what you can to delete it and save yourself tons of grief in the future.. jus sayin..Thanks, Tiger 03447

when i finally did my clutch job and replaced all of those parts i thought the rattle would be gone. it isn't. it even made me wonder if they had that rattle brand new. now I'm wondering if it could be torque tube bearings. i didn't change those out and it would make sense as they would spin with clutch pedal out and stop when in.

Dear Culture: that would be correct..but before you start on the TT, make sure that it's bolts are all tight...From what I've heard the bearings usually get all whiney first, unless they totally shuck out and the ***** go everywhere..I'm doing the TT on mine right now..not a job for the faint of heart...BTW..Thanks, Tiger03447
