Default Caliper Rebuild Problem

Hi everyone, I'm in the middle of getting my 83 944 running again, and I wanted if anyone had some suggestions on my current problem. The car I have had been sitting for about 15 years or so and I'm pretty much going through everything making it right. The obstacle at the moment is the brakes, I'm rebuilding the calipers and after pulling them all apart I found some rust inside the bores in the caliper housing (see pics below). The fronts seem ok, but the rears aren't looking so good. Just wanted to know if there is anything I can do to salvage them or if I just need to replace. The pistons are fine, no signs of rust or pitting, its just on the inside of the caliper bore.

Rear:

Here's a pic of the car in question, got a lot more work to do before she's ready to do drive.

I'm just guessing here but I would think it would be safer and cheaper to just replace them. You might try contacting race shops in your area who work with brake systems.

I can help you source a good used set of front and rears for $50 plus shipping If interested.

I'm doing the same thing with my '83 too. AutoZone has the caliper piston portion of the caliper available at a decent price with hardware. Also with a lifetime warranty. Use the other ones that you have for the cores. Might have to prepay the order but you should have new piston assemblies in about 2 days..jus sayin..Not a plug for AZ, but I work there...so hit me up if you need some parts also have a parts car if you need some help there too. Glad to help. Tiger 03447

Hard to tell from the pictures what might be real corrosion and what might be a surface patina, something you might find on a steel skillet after years of use at high temps. What cleaning methods have you tried?

Without running a hand over it I'd have trouble telling.
