Default CLUTCH Replacement Questions

1987 944 N/A

My clutch went out after 153,000 miles.
I was two miles away from my house when it happened, so I had it towed to a Porsche repair shop in Sacramento.

Questions:

1.) Is the extra $ charged by a Porsche repair shop worth the cost, or would a standard mechanic be able to do this 12-16 hour job with the same level of quality?

2.) Should I buy my own clutch kit online, and what is a reasonable price for a kit with a two year warranty?

If there is an independent shop in your area that knows these cars it would likely be cheaper and with the same level of quality.

If your getting a shop to do the job I would get it through them as most shops do not like installing parts that are supplied, also they should warranty there work should something go wrong.

If you are not considering doing it yourself, find and independent shop that specializes in Porsches. I'm not familiar with Sacramento, since I live in GA, but I'm sure there are shops that do race prep or such in your area that are familiar with the 944. Ask around and get quotes.
