Could anyone tell me how much current my 1991 944S2 Coupe should be using sitting there locked and unlocked?

My mechanic is stuck. The car's battery goes dead after sitting locked for three days. If it's left unlocked, it's fine.

Do relays or LEDs in the door go bad and use lots of current?

I tried a lot to disable the security system, but all the guides (i.e. Clarke) don't work with my car.

.04 amps should be acceptable any more will result in a dead battery. Did the mech do a load test on the batt or check for a dead cell. They need to test to see what kind of draw you have while she is sitting parked.

Bryan, do you know how to check this for yourself?

1> GOOD DVM
2> Disconnect battery negative
3> connect DVM in line with battery neg lead and battery post, set to amps
4> DO NOT START
5> check reading
6> pull fuses one at a time to see which circuit lowers the drop

usual suspects
1> alarm
2> Boot light (cab)
3> Glovebox light
4> Hood light
5> stereo

Thanks much for this. I and my mechanic tried for a while to figure out a way to disable the alarm with no luck. This gives me a much better checklist for things to test.

I found on my aftermaket alarm, there was a cable which went straight from the alarm, to the wiring loom under the fusebox, so was concelaed and removing fuses did not disarm it. but it was fused.

Confused the dickens outta me.

but try and prrove the usual suspets I DOUBT the alarm will be drawing that much current

Not the same model car, but I measured the drain when off on my 1983 944 and I got .004-.005 amps with the aftermarket stereo in and with it unplugged I got .000. I'm pretty sure my stock VDO clock isn't getting any power so that doesn't factor in.

Do your power windows still work after opening the doors? If so, the door jamb/open switch is not tripping the power window relay and this will drain the battery as you state. Very common problem and easy fix!

I had a similar problem in my car. Most common problem (as previously stated) = alarm relay.
