Default Where Can I Find Further Reading?

Hey guys, where can I educate myself about what parts do in the engine? Like would reading the WSM's help me find out what exactly the Temp II Sensor does. Or what websites you guys know about that can tell what functions are for items on and what affects it has to the over all performance to the car?
The reason I'm asking is because I've been having random issues on my car and I've posted a few times but I'm left confused because of the many answers I get back. But don't get me wrong I appreciate it all!
I guess I would like to know when someone says it might be this part, then I can reason and be educated why that part affects the function of the car. I just want to educate myself further is what I'm saying.
I've learnt a lot on my own and even more from you guys and I'm greatful. I just want to know the beast I've got!!!!

Interesting question.

I don't think the WSM is your answer. Need to keep in mind the WSM was written for seasoned mechanics, it's written assuming the reader already knows a lot of the basics, like what you are asking here.

This makes me look back and think how I learned all this stuff, mostly from hanging out at places like Page Auto and Tim Murphy's garage. Like the couch at Greg Brown's shop for Rob to nap on between lesson plans.........

It would be fun to pick each system, l-jet, CIS, EZ etc.... and list all the components and what they do in lay person terms. This list may exist, I haven't seen it.

Then again, this is about the time Rob chimes in he already made such a list and it's been posted in the FAQ for two decades.......

Here's the Bosch LJet documentation, explains how it should work, easy to read...

Here's a great LH explanation from a Saab website (LOL)

Hope this helps...

Yup, I bought that book in about 1994. Highly recommended!!
A lot of the basic knowledge I picked up by just working on simpler cars like my first SAABs (one also had hot wire injection), reading that book, and asking my mechanic at the "Metric Wrench" when I couldn't get things working.

really, the best source is this forum. Just pick a component and do a search for it, then read threads. Tedious for sure, but over time, the aggregate knowledge here is unmatched anywhere else.

there's also Jim Morehouse's CD set. It contains the WSM, which as Hacker points out, is of marginal value to most, but the CD set has lots of other stuff, like Tech Bullitens, and other reference materials. Roger sells them I believe.
