Default Keys lost. No more keys in my possesion

I lost my keys. I have no other keys. Car is in a warehouse where I can work on it. I think I left them there and someone else found them. Luckily the car is immobile. But I have the rear hatch closed with a lot of my stuff (parts, some tools) inside. Doors are unlocked (windows open). The car is under a cover.
Can I buy new keys when I show the registration papers to the dealer?

If you have a photograph of the ignition key or any other, there are companies which can make you a replacement from the photo. Much cheaper than getting one from Porsche. I have had three keys cut from photos which work perfectly.
If not you should certainly take a photo first thig when you get your new key.

Yes, the dealer can order a replacement key by VIN. It takes a while, and there have been some reports of such keys not working, but I suspect the dealer will work with you if you have problems.

+1 on the photo route if you have them.

Got my replacement keys from keys4classics.com out of AU and they work perfectly.

Sad.

After all the lost keys stories here some still prefer to roll the dice instead of getting a spare.

Always have 3 spares. Some of the newer chip keys can't be duplicated without going to a locksmith.

I have gotten two keys by VIN and registration at Porsche dealers over the years. The keys were expensive. They did work. Each one took several weeks. Or was it months?

It took my dealer 3 tries and several weeks to provide a key that worked via my VIN.

I always have a spare, which I keep together with my other key so I don't forget where it is.

Reminds me of the rental cars where they give you two big honkin' remote keys on the same ring!

Yes and the "ring" is some kind of cable strong enough to tug a cruise ship into dock.

Best keys from a photo. Had several made over the years. Fast shipping from Australia.

Dealer can make a key off of the VIN. If the ignition has been changed, or the records are wrong (and some are), it won't work.

I had one made that worked fine.

Not cheap at $90. And while they insisted on proof of ownership for a key for my 944, they didn't for the 928 (same dealer, different people).

Alternatively, Roger can have them made from the VIN too.

I tried to get a key with the VIN at my local dealer.

After two keys that didn't work, we quit.

They suggested me to try a local shop in Ottawa.

It worked... But only after they fixed the ignition they messed with.
They kept the car for a few days.
That key was not profitable at all for them...

I've had good luck with getting a new key from Porsche.

The only thing you need to make sure is that your car still has the original locks and that they have not been rekeyed. That's where a lot of people have had issues.
