Good luck with your efforts.
Thanks I was just at HF yesterday. Oh well another reason to go back by there.

Awesome. I picked one up today too. After work I may get some time to start too.

Here is a picture of tools I had and tried that did NOT work, in various combinations:

The long tool with the yellow hose zip tied at the end came closest, but the hose was not stiff enough and kept twisting and wanting to push the bit out the end, so it could drop into the V and disappear forever.

Some more tips:

2. I put a dab of super-glue on the bit of the new HF tool to hold it in place in the flex shaft. Without the super-glue the bit is not held in place very firmly, and if it drops into the Vee, you are going to be very, very sad. Yes, this makes it semi-permanent, but worst case is you could probably yank it out or spend another $7 at HF.

3. Get the longest, thinnest set of needle nose pliers you can find to manipulate the hex tip into the MAF screw. The double pivot kind seem to be the trick. You _can_ manipulate the hex tip with a long screwdiver, but it is tedious

Umm the clamps that hold the plenum collars on appear to be loose,
I would give them all another snug

Hah! They are good now. I took that pic testing the new tool during one of multiple intake install/removals.

On that note, I really hate the bastards that designed that plumbing. Example: The relationship of the MAF harness/plug to the ISV/Central Tee hose is just sadistic.

If you are keeping this as a permanent tool ...I used JB weld to keep the 3mm tip...I have similar set up...flexible metal shaft tool originally meant to adjust mix on carburetor...just another option.

The angling into the MAF pot is toughest for me also...my tool just wouldn't do a good job of flexing well with the MAF pot angled towards passenger side so I have mine facing straight forward....I use a bent coat hanger to coax the head in and a screw driver to help with removing it so I'm not putting strain on the pot mechanism itself.

(Thread resurrection, again, sorry...)

How are you guys ripping up the relay case without destroying everything? Mine appears to be very firmly glued together...

I am assuming you are talking about the round cased 911/914 relay?

I gently chucked mine up in the lathe and carefully cut away the sealed seam. I plan on reassembling it with epoxy.

OK thanks. I don't have a lathe, but maybe I could dremel off the top, and then epoxy it back. It will look ugly, but it's not like I'm selling it.

Oh, I didn't say mine wasn't ugly. And, I left part out. It should have said:
First, I tried to grind off the sealed seam by hand on a bench grinder. Then I chucked it up in the lathe.

It is really ugly. Dremel should do just fine for yours.
