Default Cruise control?

Hi guys, I've never had working cruise control in my euro 1985 S2. Ive checked for vacum leaks but everything seems fine. I've checked the electrical plug connection under the left hand wing and it's nice and clean. I've replaced the control box from behind the centre consol for a second hand unit. Now I can set the speed and the car will hold the set speed perfectly but it's applying power/acceleration then lifting off and coasting. It dose this constantly! Is this normal? If not and it should run smoothly what could the cause be?

Thanks
Ian

from the info you need to send the box off and have it rebuilt.
this may assist you.

I don't think this applies to your situation as my symptoms were different: set cruise, car coasted to a speed approximately 5mph slower than what I set.

Turns out the cruise motor (under the left fender) had fractured its housing and was holding on by a single bolt. Swapped it for a used box for a whopping $30 or so and its worked perfectly since.

Is that the round cylinder under the wing with the cable coming from the top? I removed this checking for vacuums leaks and it all seemed fine. Will I be able to open this up and check inside for anything untoward?

Yes, that's the one, its an aluminum bodied actuator. The mounts on mine had cracked off. Couldn't tell you if there are an "user serviceable" parts inside.

Make sure that cable is adjusted properly on the engine linkage side as well. As I said my symptoms were different but might as well start with the free stuff right?
