I've owned 46 Porsches. The only ones I have sold for less than I paid were the ones I bought brand new 7 0f the 46). Of the other cars I have owned I have only sold 1 (70s Mazda RX2) for more than I paid.
Bunch of interesting stats here.

Wow...I've been considering selling my 928 to buy a much needed family hauler (my elderly mother lives with us, too). I've been looking at used Lexus LX470s because they are a relative bargain - dressed up Land Cruiser that due to the status of "Land Cruiser" name sell for less. All we really need is a minivan...but choosing a used same-age Toyota or Honda van is the same price as the LX470 (and I'd rather drive the LX if I have to spend that coin). This thread caused me to research the Kia Sedona. It may be the minivan equivalent of the 928 (great and overlooked)...Mom would have an easier time getting into a Sedona. Thanks!

I believe this thread just lost what little credibility it may have had.....

I wish I could find the spreadsheet I prepared five years ago when my wife and me bought our minivan. I plotted historic valuesfor every minivan on the market to project depreciation of each model. The spreadsheet included R/T, SXT, limited. FWIW, the limited Sienna held its value the best on the spreadsheet. Other than the top end Honda, Chrysler, and Toyota, the graphs looked like El Capitan.
We test drove a Sedona. It was spunky, but the sliding doors opened on their own at 70 mph

Just when I was about to suggest that Porsche ought to make a minivan. They could source a heckuva V6 from Kia. (Now that I say that, the Panamera base model could probably benefit from an upgrade to a Kia V6).

Have you driven a Pana V6? Performance is way more than adequate, especially for US speed limits. I somehow doubt that the Kia V6 would last long at top speed, cruising, in the Pana.

I've had two Dodge Grand Caravans. Very useful - take out the rear seats and you can slide in 4x8 sheets of plywood and shut the door. Can't do that on most pickup trucks. Minivan stigma? I never cared. Worthless after a few years? Buy an old one, real old for hauling plywood, not so old for the family. Need something snazzier to drive the family to the Club? Cancel the club membership.
I don't want to sound too much like a minivan guy, though. I have my special cars to balance things out, including a pickup with an 8' bed. And I do lust for a Macan.

When I got my first 928, I used a picture of it as my screen background. One day, a draftsman from the engineering department walked-by and saw it. So he came into my cubicle and said in his heavy Vietnamese accent: "Oh - Porshhh... ek'bensive!"
I responded that they are not that expensive to buy, and if you maintain them well, the cost is pretty reasonable. "No", he insisted. "Porshhh... very ek'bensive."
This went back and forth a few times - me trying to reason with him, and he trying to convince me that Porsches are very expensive. I even tried to explain that him buying a new Toyota Corolla every 2 years costs more in TCO than my 928. He didn't believe me.
"Ek'bensive... very ek'bensive!" were his last words before he walked away...

After my first kid, when my wife was pregger with my second, we bought this:

Yes, we got the wood accents. Yes, it had the chrome roof rack. I hated it. My life was over. Then, second kid came. And you know - we crammed all the kid stuff in there, car seats, folding double stroller, folding crib, and we had room left over! AC, about 28MPG, great visibility. The hate - it left me and I was sold. Oh, I could go down the fwy and ridiculous speed and never worry about getting a ticket. I had a 914 at the time, and more often than not, I'd grab the keys for the Dodge, and the poor 914 sat in the garage for months.
