Edit: It's on! Proposed gathering: Camp 928 in Upstate NY in late June
Edit: The main thread for Camp 928 is https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...l#post14022102.
EDIT: I'm doing it! And I've settled on June 16-18, 2017. I've done some updating to the website, http://camp928.com. Registration procedures will depend on what my local PCA chapter decides at their next meeting, but let me no of your intentions. Thanks for all the encouragement. (If a moderator would change the thread title for me, I'd appreciate it. And provide advice about a sticky thread, this one or new....)
I don't have to tell you how wonderful the 928 community is, and the thrill of attending our gatherings. I started thinking about hosting a gathering of 928 owners, and despite my best advice to myself, I've gotten serious about the idea.
There seems to be a hole to fill: there is no gathering in the Northeast. I'm located roughly midway between NYC, Buffalo, Montreal and Boston - about 75 miles north of Albany, just off I-87. It's a remote area - no big hotels - but interesting, in the Adirondack Mountains, actually within the Adirondack Park, a mixture of state and private land. Smooth, curvy, scenic roads.
After pondering all the potential shark-derived names, I've settled on "Camp 928". This fits the rustic environment here, and that many may choose to camp out on our property. There are cabins and fancier accommodations, too, some good for a family vacation. There will be campfires!
You can read the details, such as they are, on the website: http://camp928.com . Obviously, I've gotten obsessed.
But what about the best date? Too early, and we have a black fly problem (local joke: "Black flies matter"). Too late and it might interfere with other events. The best dates appear to be the weekend before or after schools let out: June 16-18 or 23-25.
Interested? Which date works for you? Other thoughts?

Keep us posted. Now that Tass has entered hermit mode, you are correct: nothin' organized happens here in Yankee Land.

Count me as a definite maybe. Having learned to drive in the hills and on the dirt roads around Cooperstown, I certainly appreciate the rural 2-lanes of NYS. And, I have a tent and know how to use it.

Do you still have the grenade and other scary stuff you found in the dash area of the Bug Eye? That will be a great campfire story. You live in a beautiful post card.

My wife has a horse trials the weekend of SITM, which means I am tied to the farm that weekend, and this sounds like a potentially fun alternative. I slightly prefer the first of the two dates but not by any great degree, and either will give me an excuse to make a big triangle of the trip and visit my boys in Ithaca. Great idea, Curt!

Its a 6 1/2 hour run from Toronto and I'm unsure of how reliable my newly aquired 928 will be. The park sounds beautiful and I might bring the car on a trailer behind my RV. Is that just wrong?

I'm happy to hear these responses. Also heard from Greg Nichols, the Frenzy guy.

Curt, sounds good! either weekend works for me. I would try to get to the car museum in Saratoga either going or coming to the event. Maybe even stop over at Hemmings in VT. Sounds like a great road trip.

With Bob alone, we have a quorum! Hemmings - that's a good idea. In that picture of the car hop on the website, the yellow Opel GT is/will be featured in their magazine. That photo was taken at The Hub, whose owner is a fan of German cars. The road cycling is fantastic here, by the way - bring your bike.

I have a trip up to my place in WBO planned for early July, if the stars don't align though I'd love to stop by again when I do come through.

Incidentally, this is the cabin that sits way back on our property. Available!
