Default CV Joint Boots for 1980 928

Google search for 1980 928 boots leads you to GKN 300509, they are to small.

The factory boots that came off the car have this part # embossed on them: 90113329312...a 930 Porsche part #.

REIN boot BK0069R is the replacement for that part #. Fits nicely...they require stretching but not an extreme amount.

The metal screw tightened clamps (no special tools required) from the GKN boots fit very well...74mm I think.

I don't think you need the small end boot clamps...Porsche didn't think so...unless all 4 completely broke away.

Redline CV-2 grease.

I used the pinch clamps/tool, with my early boots. They indeed were tight to fit over the flange. But worked when on and clamped

I've never had to replace a boot on a 928. Any FWD cars it's easier to just by a reman axle for $50....

Would one of these work with the 928 boot???

I decided to repack my cv joints just because it was a 1980 and the boots/grease might have "broken" down because of their age. In my case, doing this appeared to be COMPLETELY unneeded. All 4 boots were in good shape when removed, no cracks, still pliable rubber, clamped on perfectly. The joint bearings (not the whole boot) were full of black grease that appeared to be in good condition. The ONLY benefit to doing this messy job was that I learned about Vibra-Tite, a preapplied drying thread locker, which should eliminate the danger of loosening cv joint bolts, which apparently can occur after an R & R. Bolts with Vibra-Tite on them can supposedly be removed/replaced 5 times. No doubt the pinched on boot clamps are as good or better than the screw type clamps.
