Default Timing belt and clutch slave cyclinder

I'm in the middle of a water pump timing belt project on my 1990 gt, and I'm stuck on the removal of the clutch slave cyclinder. I've tried to remove it without disconnecting the hydraulic line but I can't seem to find a way. Does one have to disconnect and drain the slave cyclinder to get the flywheel lock tool inserted?

it will help if you replace the slave line with the new Breg Brown flex line.

That said remove the 2 bolts that hold the line to the oil pan then you might have enough room to slide the slave out
otherwise remove sway bar anchor bolts drop it down then remove the starter

Not sure about a '90, but on the earlier cars, the "hard line" feed to the slave cylinder goes above the starter. I usually remove the lower starter allen head mounting bolt and loosen the upper mounting bolt enough to allow the starter to tilt down (without removing it). Should give you enough clearance to move the hard line enough to withdraw the slave cylinder.

When replacing the slave cylinder, you may have to manually push the push rod back into the slave cylinder to shorten it enough to maneuver the slave cylinder back into position.

Thanks everyone. I removed the bracket bolts but that didn't give enough space. I'll try loosening the starter. That's gotta be easier than opening the line and having to bleed the system

They are the originals. The car has 58,000 miles, and is a 1990
