Default Interior Lights Don't Turn Off - Relay?

1994 GTS

Since getting my car back from GB the interior lights don't auto extinguish or turn off when the door is locked or the ignition turned.

I've verified that both door switches and the hatch switch are working correctly.

Relay? Which one?

Thanks.

Randy,
It is part of the alarm/locking unit under the passenger seat - expensive.

Check again for the switches - the module itself is very reliable.

If it's alarm related, check the switch under the hood.,
or does the alarm even work properly now.

The hood switch only affects the alarm function - not the interior lights.

What happens if you disconnect all the switches? Have you taken out any of the interior lights recently? wiring the light fixtures incorrectly can cause this...

Normally we would ask what was the last thing you touched - but since there has been so much touching with your ride recently there is a lot of territory to cover. :-)

GB may have inadvertently hooked the roof light incorrectly when it was reinstalled. Will check that next.

I want to replace at least one of my lights with the VW type.

Any clues as to which wires on the new light connect to the existing wires?

Randy I have replaced all mine - the VW units are better in every way

Mapping:

Function: Door Lights, Roof/Hatch Lights, VW pigtails

Ground = Brown in all cases
Switched = Brown/White in all cases
Power = Red, Green, Red/Black

Randy in the picture you have the grounds switched the BR/WT wire should not be on the light frame, the frame is the BR connection.
I would suggest to add some heat shrink to the ground connection.
NOTE all of this applies if you keep this old style lamp

OK thanks guys.

Just to clarify:

old brown + brown attach to new single brown
old red + green attach to new single red/black
old brown + white attach to new single brown/white

Why two wires to each connection on the original lamp?

With connections like that the picture is for the light that is on the front part of the rear hatch / tailgate above the rear seats.

One set of those connections go to the light that is at the rear part of the hatch. The green (live) white (switched ground) and one of the browns (ground) run down the right hand side of the hatch and supply the light that's next to the hatch lock.

Regards
Duncan

Edit to add a picture of the light at the rear of the hatch. I had to re-wire this a couple of weeks ago as there was a break in the wire.

Indeed the hatch lights daisy chain together - so for the hatch top lights - there are two connections per pin one as the input and the other feeding the one at the back.

Replaced that forward hatch light with the VW type.
