928 with 3 amber side markers?
Picked up a 78 Euro 928 and noticed that it has 3 markers on the side. Before and after the front wheel, and rear fender, all amber. Haven't seen one like this. Anyone have an idea why this car has that? Thanks..... this is my first of many questions.

I believe that your car got the third side marker light during the federalization process. If your car is a Euro it would have the front side marker located behind the wheel from the factory, but in order to get the car registered in the US they sometimes mandated that the 928 had to get a side marker put on the front of the wheel as well. From what I understand the US federalization process was very un-standardized and what was required differed from car to car, but I'm pretty sure that is the reason behind your extra side marker.

Euro cars had the turn signal light in the fender (behind the front wheel). But no corner marker lights.
So during the federalization process, the required corner markers were added. As you noted, the federalization process was totally unstandardized. So some cars got genuine Porsche corner markers. Others got cheap marker lights that could have been intended for a boat trailer.
The rules required red in the back, amber in the front, but again, if they could get the inspector to sign off on it, they'd put on what ever they could.
