Default Temp gauge spike

Hey guys, so my temp gauge likes to work when it feels like it. Most times though it just spikes all the way up when I start the car which usually indicates a ground issue. I've had the pod out three times now and cannot find an issue with the pcb or connections to it. Also checked the sender and swapped with a known good one, same problem. Any idea where to look now?

I have the same problem on one of the '86.5's. What I have found is my 'tab' release arm is broken. If I reach under and push (just slightly) the gauge works correct. Check both the ribbon end and cluster ends. Hope this helps.
