My windshield, door window and rear window trim is a semi-gloss black.
There are small rock chips in the windshield trim.
The rear quarter window trim is anodized and is gun-metal gray, not at all like the other windows. Is this original? Or has a PO painted or otherwise coated the black trim. If so, the trim would have to have been removed when the car was re-painted as there is absolutely no indication of masking/overspray.
The difference at the rear is evident in attached photos.

Aluminum color is original.

These were originally black anodized, but they fade to the lighter aluminum color. I painted mine on the car.

But is the black around the door windows, windshield and hatch original? I can see it is not anodized but painted or powder coated.

Mine are black, in original condition, all the way around (although just starting to fade out in places)

What confuses me is the significant difference between the anodized and faded rear quarter trim and rest of the window trim.

Ha ! I wondered the same thing. My 79 has hit and miss variations. The black coating appears to be a thick vinyl stuff. glossy. I think I peeled some off on the back window area. My guess is it was a factory coating.

My '78 is very similar to yours. As you can see the quarter window trim has faded to an aluminium finish. You can still see that it was once black. On the bottom of mine, much less faded. The rear window trim is uniformly black. It does not appear to be finished the same as the quarter windows.

Just for the sake of pummeling a dead horse RE: the original finish on the quarter trims, came across this pic today from disassembly of a '79 coming apart at Mark's:

Hmmm. Jim, order a can of the Wurth or SEM black trim paint in the rattle can. Have plastic film and a couple rolls of tape for the masking paper dispenser. Scotchbrite and cleanup solvent and a few spritzes with the right paint and they will look like new.

Someday. First task is the shift bushing, but not 'til spring. I'm hibernating.

There's a gas furnace to heat the garage. Leave the big door closed and you'll forget that there's a few feet of snow lurking just outside.

The next week or so are committed elsewhere, but there's room after that to do your shift bushings.
