Default Sharks in Niagara 2017 - revised

For 2017 "Sharks in Ontario" is going to become "Sharks in Niagara". With some substantial changes.

The purpose of this thread is to gauge interest so I can scout a suitable hotel, event location, restaurants etc.

The dates:
Friday July 14th to Sunday July 16th
or
Friday July 21st to Sunday July 23rd

Poll has been revised for 2 additional options.

We will likely be at a hotel just outside of the falls, somewhere that can accommodate the cars and our evening shenanigans.

Here is a rough schedule for the weekend:

Friday
-Arrivals and car chat in the parking lot
-Welcome dinner ALC (within walk distance)
-Evening tail gate party

Saturday
-Morning car cleaning and team prepping/staging
-Pizza lunch in the parking lot at the hotel
-2pm the first annual "928 rally" through the beautiful Niagara wine region
-5pm return to the hotel and award prizes to the winning teams
-More evening parking lot shenanigans

Sunday
-Cars & coffee in the morning and saying our goodbyes
-Optional pool party for those who do not need to leave early

More details to come.

Compared to flying the customs officials at the bridges are easy. Going back is when you get the cavity search. Lol

But in all seriousness I have never been hassled at the border and I across at least 30 times per year. Only got chewed out once last year by one of your guys, then he looked at the paperwork he we need to do and told me to have a nice day.

I will be organizing a 40th anniversary 928 celebration in Columbus, OH (Dublin) as part of the annual Arthritis Foundation car show which is July 13-16 2017. It is the largest show in Ohio in the Summer. 1200 cars of all makes represented. I am hoping to launch a sticky tread about the event Nov. 1, 2016 when registration opens on their website. My vote is for the other weekend for your Sharks in Niagara.

Adam - The July 14 th weekend conflicts with the PVGP. Was hoping to get a bigger contingent to Pittsburgh for that amazing event next summer. We typically have 6 to 10 sharks, but 200 Porsches and over 3500 cars for a major show on the golf course, surrounded by vintage racing on public streets. It is a 3 day event, beginning with a welcome party Friday night (with good swag from PCNA), and a giant car show on Saturday and Sunday - it has become a significant car event - see this month's Hemming's Sports & Exotics for this year's article (6 page spread).

It would be good to schedule SIN for a different weekend, as I reach out far and wide to get Porsches in general, and sharks in particular here. We are thinking of making this a big gathering next year too. In fact, we'd love to see you and the Southern Ontario and Buffalo/Niagara/Rochester sharks all caravan down! What say you Adam

Good luck with your event, that's a great cause.

It sounds like July is a busy one next year. I will stick with the second date.

and on that note - think about coming down - it's a short hop and a skip for you, and you can caravan with Alex and some of the other guys from up your way.

At this point in my life it's about the Hockey (yeah, I know, who the hell plays Hockey in July/August, but three kids in travel Hockey and each team playing 'just one' Tournament in summer leads to possibly three summer weekends taken up...ugh)..so I will be there for sure if the weekend is open, maybe bringing a kid or two again...so pick a date and I'll do my best to be there...

Adam and his family run a great event. I hope to attend next year in a great, new location. I bet it doubles in size, again.

FYI: There being no event in the Northeast US, I have been contemplating hosting one in my small town within the Adirondack Park. It would be convenient to NYC, Boston, and Montreal. There would be some interesting twists on the usual format. I'll be giving it more thought and soliciting comments later, but the date I have in mind is June 16-18 (maybe June 9-11). (The closest conflict I'm aware of is SITM, two weeks and 700 miles away.)

2017 is going to be a nutty year for me with vacations, lots planned so far. So fitting in another weekend will be challenging, but you never know.

Hope you can make it Alex, keep us posted in the new year.

Thanks for the kind words Curt. I'm excited for 2017, it will be a great location and very central for everyone.

2017 could be a record year for 928 events across the board. Woo Hoo

I'll keep in touch too. Would love to drive down too if we don't have a baseball tournament that weekend. July is prime time for all the tourneys around here since our summer is normally only about 20 minutes long.

Hey Curt - good to meet you @ Frenzy.

FWIW, the next SITM is the 20th and the 40th anniversary of the 928.

Just my opinion, but I think it would be great if people put their energy into supporting SITM (if schedules allow). DR & Jeannie have been very selfless in supporting the community for a long time and I, for one, think it would be great if SITM 20 was as awesome as Frenzy 20!

All the Best,

Trey

I purposely scheduled this in July to stay clear of SITM, Hell and Frenzy. I plan to attend all three.

I'm going to take a wild guess that we will have about 30 cars, more if I can connect with many local owners that are not on the forums.

Niagara falls has more hotels and motels than anywhere on the planet so we should have no issue finding a suitable location. Plus for any Americans coming up you will benefit from your strong dollar.

Simon, you say its your anniversary, what better place to celebrate than at the falls. Te He
